You can contact the division at or You may also con- tact us online www.dcn.utah.gov. at Remember to pull over when you see those There is a problem developing here in the Uintah Rasin that we should all know about because it endangers us. That problem deals with emergency vehicles that need to get somewhere quickly on the roads. According to Utah Code Anno6 1, all drivers, upon the tated, immediate approach ofan emergency vehicle displaying audible or visual signals shall; 1) yield the right of way, 2) immediately move to the right-han- d side of the road or curb, 3 ) STOP . . .and remain stopped until the emergency vehicle has passed. .L an emer- ed, red and 1fihts, drivers shall reduce speed and provide as much room as practical with due regard to safety and traffic conditions. We are seeing different actions from drivers that are confronted with this situation. Many times drivers do nothing. Some drivers continue at the same speed down the road. Some may swerve to the left or to the without slowing. Others move toright the right side of the mad but continue to travel down the shoulder at the same speed or a reduced speed. Some drivers appear to think that they are not required to do anything and block the path of emergency vehicles by attempting to make a left turn. On the other hand, vehicles that see emergency vehicles approaching oT them are also Front in required to move to the right and stop. In many cases, if they see the approaching vehicles emergency sooner, they have a better opportunity to move to the side. Instead we have seen vehicles for so that they can position jockey pass the vehicles in front of hem. Some drivers dont think that they need to move over if the vehicle is in the oncomingemergency portion of the road. These and a variety of other maneuvers are becoming more dangerous to all of us. In many cases emergency vehicles are slowed down to the point where they are unable to assist in the emergency to which they are responding. One thing tnat all drivers should consider is emergency vehicles are usually going faster than the general flow of traffic. If traffic does not move over immediately then the emergency vehicle has to slow to a speed that will allow safe travel. Drivers need to move to the side of the road as the law requires. If they do not, they pose even greater danger to others. Police Officers responding to situations in order to maintain public safety, or an ambulance that is trying to get to where they can assist people in need of medical assistance, or firemen responding to various problems are all having the same problems on the road. Drivers are not following the law and that makes response itself another dangerous situation with which to contend. In an area like ours we can ail see that logistically we have .great distances to cover when responding to some emergencies. Ifthe people that we depend on to help us cannot where they need to go there can serious consequences. Wa would like to encourage all remember the things that if?. will help all of uq here m the Basin. Pkwwnenfbee ttiik courtesy and ndfil ling our legal responsibilities will help us all. r! v rll." .
