Your support with financial, and food donations is the heart of the food pantry and a great way to celebrate the holiday season. We receive donations from food drives, fundraisers, corporations, and government surplus. Donated food items are distributed state wide to over 240 agencies and programs with feeding programs. These agencies include food pantries, community dining rooms, heed start programs, halfway houses, residential treatment programs, senior centers, a nd shelters. Last year the Utah Food Bank distributed over 18 million pounds of food to those in need. The local food pantry was established to assist low income families in the Uintah Basin with a emergency food supplement. Currently we provide services to approximately 2000 families in the Uintah Basin. The Utah Food Bank plays a substantial role, about 40? , in stocking the shelves at our food pantries. The United States Dept, of Agriculture (USDA also provides approximately 40?. and the remaining 20 cornea from purchased food items and donations. Donations to the Utah Food Bank have been down this year which has the trickle-dow-n affect for the smaller pantries in the state, the Uintah Basin included! In this issue of the Uintah Basin Standard distributed at local stands you will find a brown grocery bag. The Holiday Bag is part of a statewide holiday food drive. If your paper did not include the Holiday Bag feel free to UBe a grocery bagofyour own. Most needed items are: tuna fish, peanut butter, canned vegetables, canned meats, pasta and beans, holiday foods, and personal hygiene items. Please open your heart and fill a bag with grocery items. The bags can be dropped off at Wells Fargo Bank located on Main and Lagoon or the Duchesne County Food Pantry 10 E. 100 N. both in Roosevelt or Ashley Valley Food Pantry 1325 W.
