Richfield Keeper Kimberly- San Juan- - Recent rains have brought hope to fanners and ranchers in San Juan County after one of the worst years for agriculture in recent memory. According to Vernal Field Office Manager Dave Howell, BLM's decision comes after more than 1 8 months at review andthe completion ofan environmental analysis which included consideration of more than 25,000 comments from Native American tribes, government agencies and the public. "Our analysis concludes that the proposed action, coupled with the required mitigation measures, will not have a significant impact on the human environment and therefore an environmental impact statement is not required, said Howell. "While there are some impacts associated with this type of prqject, I believe weve taken every reasonable and necessary precaution to protect the land. San Juan Record EebQjiio) i Heber- - Opponents of expanding the Heber City Municipal Airport, Russ McDonald Airfield, claim an increase in jet traffic will reduce the quality of life in Heber Valley. Airport supporters say the opposite. At two informational meetings held in June and September, opponents hotly contested the proposed expansion. The three areas of concern that emerged from the two meetings are noise, pollution, little, if any economic benefit to the area, and that residents living outside of Heber Citys boundaries won't have a say in the Heber City Councils ultimate decision as to whether or not to expand the airport. Supporters of the proposed expansion say noise and pollution can be mitigated by city policy and recognize the airport as a viable local business with the ability to attract low impacthigh revenue aviation industries.
