Tuesday night, they backed up the rhetoric with some action by voting to allow city employees to be paid while volunteering to read in the schools as part of the Parents for Public Schools program. Sevier County Sheriff Phil Barney offered to head the department for up to two months beginning after current chief Bill Pierce resigned Aug. 31. Pierce has opted to retire from law enforcement after 20 years, the past three of which hes spent leading the Salina department. With the recent 13.4 percent tax increase levied by the Wasatch County School District, some Heber Valley residents are questioning the project. NEPHI Juab County Attorney David Leavitt has released the financial details of the Tom Green prosecution which proved to be much better, as to the cost to Juab County residents, than anyone predicted. Leavitt characterized the out of pocket prosecution as a real bargain both in terms of the overall cost and the actual amount paid by Juab County funds. The Tom Green prosecution cost $48,101.73, much less than the figures estimated by those not close to the prosecution. However, the news for Juab County residents was much better. The Tom Green Prosecution only cost Juab County residents $611.09.
