Cloward, Cody Bow-dcn-, I 3-- vi JP , A ; x By Aldon Rachele A slow start where Duchesne found themselves behind 23-1- 4 after two quarters kept the fast charging Eagles from tak(won the second half, 32-2ing the consolation crown due to a 48-4- 6 losa to region rival, Whitehorse, Saturday, but DHS isnt too upset as they beat Intermountain Christian, 42-3Girls to finish eighth at the 1-- A 0, State Basketball Tournament. Duchesne lost to Salt Lake Lutheran in the first round, but the Salt Lake City team failed to place in the state meet. Intermountain Christian led Duchesne 9--7 after one quarter and then Duchesne had its hoop prayers answered with 16 counters in the second while holding ICS to just six to lead 22-1- 6 at the half. Duchesne added 10 more in the third for a 32-2- 6 advantage and then received an A for its D with a super defensive effort that limited ICS to just four fourth quarter points. Duchesne pumped in ten in the fourth and won by 12. Tai Marett was tops for Duchesne with 13 and Jolynn Ivie added 12. Lindsay Mullins tossed in eight and Jenny Allen, Sara Panas, two. La Col Grant added one counter. Ivie had two s. DHS fired in 15 field goals and hit 10 out of 18 free throws. Jessica Newhouse led ICS with 12 points. ICS flipped in 7 out of 12 free throws and scored 11 field goals. r Duchesne was behind 10-- 4 at the end of the first quarter, and although they scored ten counters in the second three-pointer- they were behind by nine as Whitehorse added 13 more. The Lady Eagles did better with 14 in the third quarter to come within six points at 34-- 28. Duchesne continued to chase Whitehorse, but the Eagles couldnt lasso them for a victory as they loss by two even though they outscored their opponent in this final quarter, 18-1Ivie was No. 1 for Duchesne with nine points and Marett, Mullins, Fabrizio pumped in eight counters each. Chelsea Stansfield added five and Jenny Allen four. Grant and Erica Skewes tossed in two counters each. Duchesne Ivie had one three-pointe- r. converted 9 out of 12 free throws and hit 18 field goals. Duchesne loses only two seniors, Allen and Skewes, off this years team . The Salt Lake team pumped in 13 field goals, but almost lost the game at the foul line fay going just 2 for 13. Altamont dropped out of the Tournament when they lost by three poi nts to Whitehorse, Thursday. AHS had a good start of 9--8 after the first eight minutes and both teams scored 15each in the second quarter with the Longhorns leading24-23- . However, a bad third quarter cost Altamont when three-pointe- 8-- 0 8-- 13-1- 3. 1-- A they were outscored 13-- 7 Whitehorse takinga 36-3- 1 advantage. Whitehorse withstood a 10-- 8 fourth quarter Altamont rally to hold on to win the game. Chelsie Gilbert was the top Lady Longhorn at 13 points and Mikki Mecham added 11. However, the West Desert team went dry at the basket with only four counters and Altamont stuck to the hoop like a cactus with ten counters to close the gap tojust two at 30-2- 8 after three. Bear River ended up third at 154. Carbon waseighth at 99 points. Uintah was ninth at 91 counters, which is the worst finish in years for the Utcs, who state team titles have won since the late 1950a. Union, which beat Uintah duringa dual meet, ended up behind the Utes in 12 place at 68counters. Just ahead ofUnion were; Dixie, 88 and Iehi, 86.
