Sheriff's department hires 5 new deputies Five new deputy sheriffs began patrolling county roads this month, and, according to Duchesne County Sheriff Ralph Stansfleld, they have filled a large vacancy left in the deputy numbers when the department lost five deputies over the past few months. Former Deputy SheriffTerry Lister recently left the sheriffs department and is now workingfortheUtah County Sheriffs Department. Deputies Ammon Manning and Eric Nielson left the sheriffs department in favor of working for the Roosevelt Police Department. Two other former Duchesne County Deputy Sheriffs, Jared Reary and Travis Tucker, also resigned their positions with the county and have left law enforcement altogether. They are now employed in the private business sector. Sheriff Stansfleld cites better pay as the reason why the men left their jobs with the county. While the Roosevelt Police Department doesnt pay their officers as much aa the county sheriff's department, Roosevelt police officers have frequent opportunities to earn overtime pay, something with is not available to deputy sheriffs, who have to take compensation time off instead of overtime pay. Newcomers to the sheriff's force include Rodney Eskelson, who left Uintah County to work for Duchesne County. Wade Butterfield, Mark Watkins, and John Cowley are new deputies who have come from Weber, Utah, and Daggett counties respectively. The fifth deputy to fill the vacancies in the road patrol force is Brandon Adams, who was already employed as an officer with the county sheriff's department and has transferred from the Duchesne County Jail. His transfer has been counter-balance- d by officer David Lupoid, who has left the road patroland been transferred to the jaU. All of the new deputies are certified police officers.
