Ray Lemieux and Justin Lemon located an ELT on the airport in Vernal. ELT stands for emergency locator transmitter and all airbaft are required to have one on board. If they crash, it sets , off the ELT which aids search crews in their search for the downed aircraft. Occasionally an ELT is accidentally turned on, usually by someone doing maintenance or other work on the airplane and if they dont notice that it is on (and turn it off) the signals are picked up by satellite and the air force is notified and then a search for the airplane is started. There is no way to know if it is really a downed airplane or ifthe ELT was accidentally turned on eo until it ia located it is treated as a search for a downed airplane. Apparently tine is what happened at the Vernal airport. Joe Shelton, Jared Percival and Dale Larsen flew in the vicinity of Taylor Mountain helping to locate a missingelk hunter. At the conclusion ofthie search, Shelton flew the search dog team that had been brought in to help, back to their base at the Salt Lake International airport. The local CAP Squadron is planning to fly security missions for the Home Land Security in the Aiture, especially during the Olympics. v The Next Stage : '..'A', V Dontmissafun-fillc- d v : 's;- Imm Kwj-vy.- v r j ' ' Mi''- -.
