Canadian loan scams claiming Utah victims The Better Business Bureau of Utah is a consumer alert to Utahns after the BBB has been notified that local residents are among the victims of several advance fee loan scams operating from Canada. Advance foe loan scams solicit cash payments fin the promise of obtaining a loan. Participants regularly pay hundreds, or thousands of dollars up front for loans that never materialize. " The Canadian task force group known as PhoneBusters, comprised of Canadian law enforcement and consumer agencies has indicated that raids on locations being used by operators of the numerous scams, and complaints forwarded totheir offices has produced a list of victims across the United States.Victims in Provo and Cedar City, Utah are among those that apparently paid up front fees for loans that were never received. Though the operators of these scams are primarily located in Canada, many utilize mail drop locations in the United States in order to hide their true location, explains Russ Behrmann, President of the BBB of Utah.
