Logan DcKiuin, quarterback and did it all, Friday in Duchesne, lie intercepted a paaa, which set up his game winning touchdown run to make it a perfect homecoming day with a Eagle triumph over the No. 3 ranked Rams. No. 5 Duchesne will host No. 2 Altamont, Thursday at 4 p.m. inarematchof the first meeting between the two when the Longhorns beat the Eagles in Altamont. The game was a defensive fan's dream with a shutout first half and in the only nine points sco red-- all second half. Parowans Trevor Yardley lived up to his name by kick-- i n g the ball 2 1 yards for a field goal to give the Rams the first lead of the game at 0 with 57.3 seconds left in the third quarter. However, Eagle fans figured the Rams had some help on a roughing-the-puntcall as well as luck on a fake punt with their kicker, Yardley playing a major role in Parowans hopes of caging the Eagles. Yardley waschasedoutofthe pocket, raced to thesidelines and punted the ball just in time. Officials ruled that Yardley was roughed up, and Parowan took over on the Duchesne 47. The Eagles soared on defense and shut down the Rams, but they couldn't solve Yardley, who instead of punting the ball pitched it underhanded, like a softball hurler, to a running back for a first down at the Duchesne 28. Parowan advanced to the Eagle fouryard line and then gave up their hopes for a TD. They settled for a field goal and a 0 lead after down play, but after a measurement the Rams were a yard short. However, a penalty placed Duchesne on line-n- o its own 1 problem as a first down pitch to Landon Despain got the Eagles out of danger where they safely punted the ball away. AfewminuteslaterGilbcrt broke up a Ram aerial by tippingit with the net result being an interception by Landon Despain in Parowan territory. Duchesne didnt score a TD in t he second quarter. I IT Duchesne proved that the decision to go for a field goal was a bad one when Despain pulled ofThis interception and gave the Eagles the ball at the 11 yard line with 4:57 left in the game. After a couple of plays, Despain went left and powered into the end zone for what turned out to be the game winning TD with 3:68 remaining. "I just knew I could pick it. We worked hard all week long and coach gave us a pep talk to pump us up, said Logan Despain. "I knew I could score and I did it on a reverse down the left side. I got the good blocks when I needed them. After the game Duchesne Coach Colby Knight said, We found a way to win, and this one was for the seniors. Parowan is a quality team and was ranked No. 2 for part of the season. (The Rams were undefeated at 0 until they lost to Monticello and now Duchesne. ) Coach Knight added, This is the biggest win in the Duchesne program for a longtime. I told our guys we had to find a way to win, and we knew we had to get the ball in our best playerB hands (Logan Despain). He wasn't open as three defensive guys were there, but he wanted it more (the TD ) than they did. Milie Moon didnt get into the end zone, but he still tormented the Rams with two key first down runs late in the game that helped Duchesne use up time on the clock and lock up their third win in the past four games. I went as hard as I could and got a super block from Landon Despain on the final firstdown run that killed most ofthe clock, "Moon commented. One of the linemen on the Eagle team, Tony Fabrizio remarked, I just blocked as hard os 1 could for the win." The winning points came in tin final minutes, but it was the defense 'that did the job by stopping Parowan time after time, and corner hack, Jeremiah Gilbert said, Ourdefense was awesome. We took them on and knew we could gel it done. Some good running plays plus penalties advanced Parowan deep in Eagle territory late in the first quarter, and then Dave Stevens carried tlie ball to the Duchesne 3 on a fourth HAPPYGUYS-Eag- ie footballersand fans celebrated Dudtesne's homecoming win, and check out the scoreboard above during all the cheering.
