Hank is a Llewellin setter, a breed originating in England. To tie casual bbserver, the breed looks like an English setter, but to those who fancy the Llewellin strain, they are a breed apart. The ancestors reach back to the 1500s. The dop were used to set or point game birds for the falcons the ruling class of the day hunted with. Later, when the poorer folks hunted (or poached), nets were used to catch game birds. The dop would point, t hen were taught to crouch down with their bellies on the ground while the net was cast, sometimes on the dogas well as the birds. When shotguns appeared on the scene, the dop conting ued their activities, addbirds to the harvested ing retrieving repertoire. There is no denying the style and good looks of the dop. While many huntingshowBjustfilmguysanddop hunting, Dezs intent to produce a show that told stories in the old style meant they had to approach their work from a bit different angle. The intent wasnt to film a hunt, but to fil m a show about hunting, capturing the warmth and appeal of days in the field with dop and shotguns. Dez wanted to feature Hank and the relationship Dez has with him, not just to show birds ptting shot over a dog. As a consequence of that goal, the crew will pick locations conducive to filming, release a bird in the spot and Hank on it immediately. Everyone thought it was weird, says Rather, but we got used to the idea. Tom Rather had never built a coffin before, nor he says has he ever built anythingquite like it in any ofhis shop classes. The coffin didn't require any different tools than Thompsen had, but it did require a lot of manual labor. Students were motivated by the fact that the coffin wasbeingbuilt as a service project for someone they are all acquainted with. e, The intent wasn't to film a hunt, but to film a show about hunting, capturing the warmth and appeal of days in the field with dogs and shotguns. 789-368- 9 Yoga brings a vital life force energy into the lives of those who practice it. body types, she explains, adding that alie even haaexperience teachingindi-vidual- s in wheelchairs. Yoga, Joan says, is not some foreign type of religion. It is universal and acknowledges that there is some higher power. There are four elemen ts that yoga centers on: physical, spiritual, mental and emotional. These areas, Joan says, are all crucial to an individual 'a health . Joan has found yoga brings a vital life force energy into the livesofthosewho practice it. Joans first exposure to yoga occurred while she was pregnant with her second child when she picked upa book called Healthy Pregnancies the Yoga Way. At thetime she was looking for an exercise that would helpher and her baby to be more healthy, as well as making the birth process easier. That was about 22 years ago. Today Joan is certified to teach yoga. Joan moved from Salt Lake City two years ago with her second husband L. Carl Robinson. Their home is on an herb ranch located on Myton Bench. Joan has live children of her own, onedaughtcrandfoursons. Her youngest are twina:oneboy and one girl who are seniors at Union high. Joan took certified t rainii lgcou rees in meditative healing arts from Muhammed Abdul Hakeem, who was trained by master teachers in India. Tibet and China. She is certified in Knya Yoga, an Indian Yoga brought to the United States by ParainBhansa Yogananda. That was the fascinating part." save Joan about learning meditative healingans and Knya yoga. The mind is a powerful tool and can be used to empower our lives as well aa heal our bodies, Joan quotes. She has recovered her ability to walk and isback writing, teachingand traveling. Joan has found that she is more centered andless hyperactive because ofyoga. Health is important at any time in life. It is important, fromyouthon, to actively do whatever you can to protect your health, relates Joan. Ifyou are feelingcrummyand have no energy. Joan says yoga will help you become centered and rejuvenated. There are those who will roll their eyes and think this is weird. Fine. It doesn 't matter if five or 50 people sign up, says Joan. Hankletters after the hunts, that Dez started thinking about the Hppeal of an outdoor show playing on Hank's personality. Dez had read many huntingstories and books by late early y writers and greatly appreciated their romanticized, werm way of telling hunting stories. He decided that if he did a show, he wanted it to follow their style, rather than producinganother ofthe typical how to hunting shows that domi na te t he current market. With a background in communications to bolster his idea, he began looking for someone to film for him. He ran into Bob Corley. Bob's previous work in outdoor filmography was extensive, including work with several other outdoor shows. The star gets plenty of attention. While he may not need makeup, the crew makes sure the hair styling gets taken care of. Hank is a star and they e want him lookinghis best. While snowy morning, the filming was interrupted so Hank could spend some time in the clubhouse and dry out. Dry Lie well ms are far more visually appealinglhan wet ones. It is that aitention to detail that makes Hunting with Hank a leader in outdoor programing. Dez went in to the project thinking that they would probably only do shows for one season. Perhaps Hank knew belter. The shows they fil mod at Pleasant Valley Hunting Preserve will be shown during Hank's fifth season on the air. The crew travels to four locations a season to film the 13 episodes needed, with three shows i rodueedat each location and a four! h at one s,H to fill the programming ucds.
