Show 3. 2W- 1INTAII BASIN STANDARD. lm mens m Grinds Gee C. H. Winterton H. Cum Wilaon Winterton, age 85, pasaed away September 27, 2000 in Rooaevelt. She was barn July 3, 1915 in Hillsdale, Garfield County, Utah to Seth and Alta Morrill Wilson. At the age of three her family homesteaded property in Tridell where she spent her childhood and adolescence. The family later moved to Roosevelt to help facilitate her education. She graduated from Brigham Univeraity with a teaching degree at an era that was unusu al for many women to attend college. She served a mieakrn in Eastern Canada in the 30s before marrying her eternal sweetheart, Omni Overton Winterton. in the Salt Lake LOS Temple November 14, 1940. She waa a life long resident of tin Uintah Basin, where she was a prominent Union High School teacher of drama, literature and English for many years. She often expressed her love and concern for her students, going out of her way to craft individual learning activities for many of them. In this capacity she was well known and respected by many individuals in the community who remembered her energy and creativity aa a teacher. Many of theee aame individuals have visited her or shown great kindness as her health slowly deteriorated during the last three years while she was a resident of the Stewart Convalescent and Rehabilitation Center. Carma waa an emancipated woman long before it waa fashionable. She helped her husband Omni in the Hereford cattle business, and then developed business and office skills as they operated a farm equipment business. She participated actively in many political, community and civic projects and wrote letters or spoke in meetings to advocate for her position on moral or educational issues. With nothing except a vision of what might be, the set out to convert cow pastures and meadows from her father's estate into a modern subdivision on the western limits of Rooaevelt She had a love for drama and music and inspired her family and others to develop their talents. More than anything, Carma Winterton valued her testimony of the Church of Jesus Christ and expressed it in her words and actions. She energetically accepted many church callings and served two additional missions with her husband, in the Randlett Indian Branch and in Louisiana. In the spirit of charity she invited into her boms her brother Wendell and father-in-laHynim S. Winterton. who both lived as part of the family for many years. Wendell was (earning disabled and aha was both creative and patient asshe helped him learn to read, drive, teach primary, and hold ajob as a mail carrier. She was a devoted wife, to Omni, and mother to four children, Marilyn W. (Clifford G.) Edmunds, Ellwott City, MD; Arvin (Bonnie); Carol (llorb) Gillespie; and Hynim (Ronds), all of Roosevelt. While she was ac complished in mamr fields, her greatn est Joy was her children, her 23 and one great grandson. She is also sunrived by sisters. The Us Brock, St. George; Mona Haynes, Orem; B. Gale Wilson, Colfax. CA; and David Wilson. Salt Lake City. VanTassell Carl M. Van Tasaell, 79 year old Burley resident, died Sept 27, 2000 at his horns in Burley peacefully. He was born November 14, 1920 in Vernal, Utah to Henry Owen and Florence Sidney Moon Van Tasaell. He graduated from Uintah High School in 1939 in Vernal, Utah. Ha married Elda Merchant on March 23, 1944 in the Salt Lake IDS Temple. Hewasafannerai.4 Jaiiyman.He was the Probation Officer for the Ute Indian Tribe from 1966 to 1975 and was a Board Member of Utah Farm Production Credit and President of the Duchesne County Farm Bureau. Inger'a brother, Kori Brinstick, and hia son Tom, of Norway, were also then. On Sept. 17 Inger's son, Fred Wersland, brought her home on his motorcycle. She said it rained on them a bit on the ride. Carman Michaels, daughter of Pauline Herrera, eqjoyed a visit from her son Steve Sanches, his wife Linda and their young aon, Austin, of Longmont CO. They arrived on Wednesday and left on Saturday. Linda's mother, Ola Child, of Ogden, came and spent a day with them. Matey Herrera and her four children of Orange CA spent five days there, also granddaughter Dianne and Nelson Herrera. He was on the High Council, Branch Mission President in Randlett, Utah, and Young Mens President and had served a mission to the North Central States Mission from 1942 to 1944 and served 6 other subsequent missions throughout his Life. His enthusiasm for life and genuine concern for others together with impeccable moral standards wen highly favorable and deeply re- - dating with him and his family. He is survived by his wife.
