Usually a team has a couple of home games to start off the season, goes on the road and then has its annual Homecoming Game, but Union High School didn't go that route ae they opened the season with a two game Road Trip and now they are happy to be home for their Homecoming Week with the key item being a football game vs. Ben Lomond, Friday at 6 p.m. The Homecoming Week schedule is as follows: Tuesday, September Day, lunchtime activiOlive Eating ties Olympics-Gre-en and Paper Plate Throwing Contests; 0 Tire Big the season with a 20-- 6 loss to Morgan. Other Homecoming activities are scheduled throughout the week. Wednesday, September Clothes Day, which will included a pie eating contest and then a powder puff football game at 6 p.m.; Thursday, September 9 Rise & Shine Day, lunchtime activities, girls getting a make-ove- r by the guys and guys getting shaved with popside sticks by the girls; night event, drive-in- ; Friday, September and Gold Day, music in the commons, pep assembly 7th hour and after school on football field; night events, football game, 6 p.m.; homecoming dance at 9 p.m. Union head football coach Don Busenbark is into his tenth season st the Roosevelt school. He is being assisted by Ace Davis, offensive coordinator, who has been at Union 10-Bl- ack for 14 years; Jeff Hanke, receivers defensive backs (9th year); Kirk Stradinger, linebackersrunning backs; David Brotherson, year); Phillip Bertoch, lincbackerafoffensive line (4th year); Merlin Rasmussen, backs (4th year). Bertoch, Rasmussen, Stradinger also coach the sophomores and ior varsity. and Hanke guide the freshmen. The highlight of coaching at Union High School for Busenbark, Dads, Hanke and Stradinger would be the Cougars 3-- State Title in 1993. Last year Union finished at 4 and competed in the first round of the 1998 State Meet The 1998 season was the Cougars' best year since th on A 5-- 1993. The 1993 title stands out, but 1 hope we dont have to wait another 28 years for the next state title. 1 hope we get another one, said Coach Busenbark. Union won its first state crown in 1965 and then won the next one 28 years later in 1993. Coach Busenbark is a Brigham Young University grad, who played football with Ty Detmer in college 1980s. However, he has been seen lately wearing the Red and White oflhe University ofUtah "Utah has been real good to Union and our players have been good to them, he said. Former Union Cougars, Kevin Wilson, Sam While and Brandon Dart are current members of the University of Utah football team. Cameron Evans also played for the Utes last year. Prior to coaching at Union High School, Coach Davis spent tenyeare at West Junior High, lie is arradu-at- e of Snow College, BYU and Wasatch High School Wasatch has lost all four of its state championship opportunities with Coach Davis on the losing end while in high school, but on the winning side as a coach against his former team. Union will host Wasatch the following week on September 16. r .... (Wasatch). I played football in high school with Ron Tree, who is now the coach at Wasatch. He was one of my teammates, he said. Wasatch defeated Union in the third game of the 1993 season and was a heavy favorite to best the Cougars in the title game. However, Union stung the Wasps, 40-2- 2, behind the heroics of Scott Rasmussen. Robbie Abercrombie, Rusty Keel, Lane Earl. Sam White, Kevin Wilaon, Ty Glinea and oth- Union led the title game the half, and Wasatch rallied back within three at with ten min, utes left, but then the Cougars went on a 15-- run behind touchdowns by Keel and Abercrombie to lock up the 19-14- at Century 21 Country Realty 722-455- 25-2- 2 865 E 200 N.
