It is that time of year again and Christmas is just around the corner. Families can have a unique recreational outing by cutting their own Christmas Tree. The following is the Christmas Tree information for the Ashley National Forest. Duchesne Ranger District: Will start issuing permits on Monday, November 24, 1997. Permits can be purchased at the Duchesne Office, 85 West Main; Wilkerson Store, (801) 738-239- 4; 454-374- 0; Kicking-W- , (801) and the Hanna Store, Office hours are (801) Monday through Friday 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. The Duchesne Office is also open on Saturday, November 29, 1997 and Saturday, December 6, 1997 from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Permits are $5, one permit per household, me tree only. Thomas will manage all public communications functions, including local, national, international media relations, state and local government information services and community activities. She will also be responsible for SLOCs program for arts and culture. In her management role, Thomas will report to and work with SLOC President and CEO, G. Frank Joklik. She will interact with all SLOC function managers to obtain accurate and perceptions of preparations for the 2002 Olympic Winter Games. We are thrilled to have Shelley join us, said Joklik. Her experience, personality and her many talents uniquely qualify her for helping us with planning and implementing our public communications programs. The importance of this task is equal to any facing SLOC. Thomas is currently Vice President of Public Affairs for Smiths Food ft Drug Centers, Lac., a leading retail chain of more than 150 stores, headquartered in Salt Lake City, Utah. Since joining the company in 1991, her responsibilities have been to direct media relations, government and industry affairs, community relation and charitable involvement for the corporation in seven western states. In addition, she dincta andrcoordinates e internal Smiths more (i nnlfwfatiniis for jtbangOemrior- - From 1979 to 1991, Thomas worked as a news reporter and broadcast anchodf f&SBL, Television, Salt Lake City sNRCv affiliate. During that time she iris recognised by her peers with' numerous awards for her reporting, special news series and docmgitaries, including first pigeehesm from the Society of Professional Journalists, tbs National Press Club Consumer Journalism Award in 1982, and a regional EMMY. Governor Leavitt recently appointed Thomas asaTrustec for the University of Utah. She also serves M Vies Chairman ofthe Utah Foundation, is a member of the Board of the Utah Shakespearean Festival end faf on the Board of Directors of Regencct'Blue Cross and Blue Shield ofUtah. In 1996 she was Chairman of the Board of United Way of Salt Lake City, and continues as an ex officio member of the Executive Committee. She was a Salt Lake City delegate to the National Volunteer Summit in Philadelphia in 1997, as was selected as a member of the International Womens Forum in 1994. A native of Utah, Thomas was born in. Salt Lake City. She has graduated with B.A. degree in Music, withaMinor in Journalism from the University ofUtah. Thomas said, As a citizen of Utah, my concerns have been parallel with many in the community. I am humbled by the opportunity to be able to work to make the 2002 Olympic Winter Games an unqualified success. Thomas will begin her duties on Nov. 17, 1997. The Connection will host a craft boutique scheduled for this Friday and Saturday, November 7th and 8th at the Country Cottage during regular business hours.
