Titles were presented for thought, but none were decided on. It was decided that a new name will be selected in the upcoming meeting, when other loose ends will be tied, such as formation of an executive board, committees and application criteria. Taking an added step the Coalition will host a business and community meeting on Tuesday, October 21, at 5:30 p.m. at the Moon Lake Electric building in hopes of providing further information about the Coalition and future changes and goals. al because we have been criticized for wanting authority over a city comprised mostly of tribal members. The officials of Roosevelt City have always been amenable to meet with die tribe and to discuss any issues. In fact, Roosevelt City has always invited the tribal leadership to participate in its social activities which some do and the rapport that results from such meetings is appreciated and respected by the officials of Roosevelt City. simply not true. Roosevelt City has been criticized for seeking to establish its jurisdictional authority in an effort to grab or steal mineral wealth that belongs to the Ute Indian Tribe. Again this is not true. Anyone with any knowledge of the matter knows that mineral rights belong to whomever owns them as determined by state and federal law. Roosevelt City holds very little rights to minerals and what it does hold could realistically be a very small drop in a very large bucket when compared to the tribes and other individual holdings. Roosevelt Citys oil royalty revenue, depending upon how much oil is produced, amounts to approximately $8,000 per year and this small amount is considered a blessing. On July 21, 1997, Roosevelt City complied with legal requirements in notifying tribal legal counsel regarding the Motion to Remove die Injunction Against Roosevelt City, resulting in a hearing on September 8, 1997. At all times, as previously stated, Roosevelt City has followed legal notification requirements. Roosevelt Citys main source of revenue comes in the form of sales and property tax, in that order. These taxes make up the bulk of die revenue that fond police and fire protection, community parks and recreation, including the cemeteiy,and city administrative services. Water, sewer, and garbage fees go into what is called ' the utility fund and are used to provide these services and to repay die debt for the systems. r - could be further from the truth. The truth of this matter is that the Ute Tribe holds its annual Pow Wow celebration during the kSSOIl is easier said than done. The officials of Roosevelt are saddened by the reports they are hearing and hope that those who choose to entertain die falsehoods that are being expressed will realize that they are simply not true.
