Youth waterfowl day September 27 Ones again, the days are getting shorter end the nights are getting . cooler. These facto trigger various responses in many outdoors enthusiasts. While some think of football or pennant races, or a- hike through the colorful foothills of Utahs back country, a growing number are returning to a traditional foil activity in numbers that havent been seen since the 1960a. The Great Salt Lake marshes are back, and so are the ducks! Utahs waterfowl managers are reporting excellent habitat conditions throughout the state. Production counts in the northern states and Canadian provinces indicate another spectacular foil migration - that will include record numbers of gadwalla, redheads and Northern shovelera. Spring counts showed a 80 percent increase in the number of breeding pintails. Bag limits have been liberalized for the 1997-9- 8 Utah waterfowl season, with hunters allowed an additional hen mallard and an additional pintail in the bag. The total daily bag limit remains at seven birds. The season length has been increased to 106 days. ' Saturday, Sept 27, marks an opportunity for Utahs experienced waterfowlen to do something for the future of the sport they love, as well as for the safety and eijoyment ofyounger friends and family members. On Sept 27, Utah will host its first Youth Waterfowl Day, providing adult hunters an opportunity to accompany youths on a one-da- y duck, merganser and coot-oal-y hunt Geese, snipes and swans may not be taken.
