Mitchell, volunteers Dr. Mark time reading childrens literature to students at Altamont Elementary School on Monday afternoons. Dr. Mitchell has authored five books about knights and dragons. Most of the stories he has told to his own children at home. The stories that they liked particularly well arc the ones that he has published. The publishing company working with Dr. Mitchell is Royal Fireworks Press from Unionvillc, New York. Dr. Mitchell's books can be ordered from the publisher and soon can be purchased from local .bookstores. He has also authored an adult fantasy trilogy that is yet to be published. Also he is interested in beginning reading programs and has devised a new way of teaching reading that utilizes right brain activity. Dr. Mitchell lives in Ncola with his wife Velinda and nine children. He grew up in California near San Francisco but has lived in all parts of the country. His last residence before the Uintah Basin was southern California Mojave Desert region where he served a tour in the army. Dressed in full authentic costumes, a group of young Ute Indian dancers performed traditional dances for the students at Altamont Elementary. Darlene education Thompson, special assistant at AES became acquainted with Jackie Martinez, Title I .teacher from Myton Elementary, while the two of them were State enrolled in a Weber Extension class, "Multicultural Classroom. Martinez is the coordinator for the young Ute dancers. The appearance at AES grew out of the two teachers friendship. According to Martinez, these drilled young dancers now are invited to perform for various schools and at indian pow wows in surrounding states. Martinez weaves into her narration legends of the different tribes from which the costumes and dances came. She also explains the meaning of the dances and the accompaniment of drums and singers. The Altamont children were enchanted by the colorful costumes incorporating bead work, buckskin, shells, ivory moose teeth, silver jingles, fun of Association mink, otter and raccoon, and eagle feathers. The many hours spent learning and practicing the dances were evident in the skill with which the young dancers performed their intricate steps and movements.
