To do this we chose several women from Myton to honor along with the royalty. The woman we chose to honor this year are exemplary, courageous, giving and an example to all people. We wanted our young women to know that they CAN be anything they want to be, and they too can walk the good road, which has been traveled by these outstanding woman. Most certainly, each woman can share stories of triumph and sorrow, gains and losses, happiness and grief, but they can also ' tell of their ' belief in trying, never stud. die for tomorrow", hope Today our children face a new world; a world of change. And in this world of change, these seven woman we have chosen to honor certainly offer guidance and hope to all humankind. A short history of her life and works sent to us by her in law Ruth Allen was as an inspiration to our young people tint they too can be anything they want to be if they work hard towards their dream. She was the first lady doctor in the Uintah Basin and gave her whole life to this work. ' Another teacher honored was Gloria Jones for making "going to school an experience, rather than something that has to be done." Sharon Abegglcn, who was bom and raised in the Uintah Basin, was the next honoree. She chose to use hear talents to try to alleviate the pain of poverty and has worked in poverty programs for 20 years. She wrote us, "I know that poverty is a condition that is more than one. merely lacking personal and financial resources. It is a hopelessness that fills the soul. You see it in so many faces and especially in die childrens eyes. If I was to outline a plan to eliminate poverty in the world and all the pain and sadness it brings, it would be learning to give unto others. When one gives of ones self then you forget about your own problems. You become focused and empowered by the act of giving. I truly believe that the people of Myton and the Uintah Basin f XC ai? jossess that quality.
