At a press briefing, DWR Director Bob Valentine said the agency has been working on the plan since last spring, in an effort to save animals and avoid human interaction problems with hungry elk and deer, especially along the heavily populated Wasatch Front The plan includes strict criteria for determining whether emergency feeding is necessary. DWR big game program coordinator Wes Shields emphasized that big game animals are in good shape throughout the state, and don't need help at the present time.
