Strawberry stream fishing to discontinue soon Fishing ends August 3 on the streams of Strawberry Valley as Utah Wildlife Resources biologists begin work to remove the rough fish from all streams flowing into the reservoir. This is preparation for reservoir treatment later in the month. The stream limit of 4 trout will not 'change.' After fishing doses, wildlife personnel will open a gap in larger beaver dams along streams to allow the free flow of water. By August 6 drip stations begin applying rotenone to the streams to remove fish. All waters along streams must be treated from headwaters to the reservoir. The dead fish may not be collected, by order of the food and Drug Administration. ' Beaver are not adversely affected by rotenone and will begin to repair the breach in their dam the n first a weds the gap will be closed and the pond restored by the beaver. A recent meeting of wildlife officials. and members of Utah Wilderness Association discussed impacts of stream treatment on the beaver colonies of the Strawberry Valley. Most of them are obvious-incotaxes and sales taxes, for instance. However, americans also pay excises taxes. Thess taxes are added an to the price of consumer goods such as gasoline, alcohol, cigarettes and telephone calls before they reach the consumer. Excise taxes often are referred to as "hidden taxes" because consumers often are unaware that the taxes are included in the price of an item.' In 1990, Americans will pay $35 JS billion in excise taxes. Based on population estimates for 1990 by the 13 Census Bureau, this would amount to $141.20 in excise taxes paid by each American. me night-Withi- A rs it -- r i i .' i , iV&. jMi Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation to host 2nd Annual Banquet Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation haa announced that ita Second Annual Banquet and Auction will be held at Bottle Hollow Resort on Saturday, August 11. Although wild animal mothers do leave their young alone, they rarely abandon them without reason. "Seldom are we doing young wildlife a favor by picking them up and taking them home or to a DWR official," says conservation officer Garth Carter. "In almost every case the young animal dies in captivity or as a result of being handled and released back into the wild." Carter offers this advice: "Each species of wildlife has its own means of survival; some mothers leave their young unattended; other mothers constantly monitor the juveniles activities.
