Show Eage 6 - May 18. 1988 Fducation Basin Standard Union seminary honors 72 senior graduates Stanley A. Peterson, Associate Commissioner for the IDS Church Education System, will be the keynote speaker for the Union High Seminary Graduation, May 19 at 7:30 p.m. at the Roosevelt East Stake Center. Peterson is responsible for the seminaries and institutes of religion, church schools, and religious continuing education. The programs are operating in 68 countries and all fifty states, involving about 709,000 students. Front: Nick Yam a, second in science projects; Todd Richman, third in scientific collections. 1-- Neilson gets four awards SueAnn (Suzi) Neilson, daughter of Diane ft Terrill Neilson, of Neola, was recently notified that she has received four national awards for the school year 1987-198- 8. The United States Achievement that SueAnn has been named a "United States National Award Winner in Science. This award is a prestigious honor few students can ever hope to obtain. SueAnn, who attends Union High School was nominated by Km Yama and Mike Wakefield, science teachers at Union. Suzi was then notified by the National Secondary Education Council that she has been selected as a "Scholastic This award is given in recognition of academic excellence. She has,' for the second year, been named to Who s Who Among American High School Students" She was nominated for by Km McKenzie, Principal of Union High. Miss Neilson has also been named to the "Society of American High Distinguished School Stu den ta for the third year. She was also nominated to this honor by Principal McKenzie. Students must demonstrate academic excellence, participate actively in civic affairs or display leadership in extracurricular activities in order to gain membership in this Stanley A. Commencement exercises will be at 7:30 the same evening; at the Roosevelt East Stake Center. The public is invited to the commencement exercises; Sunday dress is appropriate. La-bru- Woodruff of Duchesne High School said that he planned PLANS AFTER GRADUATION-Stc- ve to work over the summer before attending Salt Lake Community College next fall, while Becky Burdick plans to attend summer school at B YU. Lynell Taylor said she plans to go back home to Idaho to find a summer job. Textbooks donated The Uintah Basin Area Vocational Center in Roosevelt was notified May 11 by Mrs. Pat Ivia that the petroleum school would receive textbooks in behalf of her departed husband, Dennis Ivie. The books, very difficult to obtain because oftheir cost, will be a valuable resource to the petroleum school. They cover such subjects as well control end drill stem tearing. Mr. Ivie was a student at the vocational center on a part-timbasis over the last several years. He worked for CNG producing Roosevelt, until his death last year. George Miller, program coordinator for the petroleum school, received the texts from Mrs. Ivie e ' last week. St program set Linda Moat of Duchesne will be Senior Class Historian, National Honor Society Secretary, and editor of the schools Literary Magazine. She has a grade point average of 3.947. Her future plans include college and a career as a psychia- putting on a spring dance program May 23 at 7 p.m. at Duchesne High School. It is free of charge and everyone is invited to attend.
