Show Chamber PAC gives concerns Aa 1086 draws to a dose, it gives us a chance to account for the things draw throughout the year. The Chamber in our area has joined those throughout the country in support of Legislation having a positive effect op small business and opposing those that' would have a negative raw. We have received letters monthly from the national center of Chamber of Commerce, informing us of bills that are being proposed or being considered. Many proposed bills attempt to mandate the daily operation of business, which is much better left in the hands of those concerned. We have joined with the National Chamber in opposing mandated benefits and retirement. We fed as do they, that the increase of overhead resulting in such legislation would be crippling to many small marginal businesses. We also fed that the Spirit of Free Enterprise is what makes business in the United States excd, and that governmental interferences in that system will only result in stagnation and inability to compete in the world market. Our legislators need to provide an environment in which buainess dreams can be obtained and not allowed to bind the hands that seek those dreams. Aa a Chamber we are working with and lobbying the Legislature so that they understand our position as businessmen and the problems that we face. Another concern facing the business sector in our area is the result of the jurisdictional decision, giving the Ute Tribe an undefined authority over our area. As a Chamber we are looking to the positive side of this matter. Although it is too early to speculate on the economical impact it will have, we ' believe that there will be more money and jobs in the area as a whole. The Ute; Tribe has the same desire to see our area grow and be productive as do the businesses here. A united effort will do well in realizing those desires. In dosing, I would like to express my thanks to those who have helped on our committee this past year, and also to wish the Chamber continued success as I retire from its Board of Directors. I hope that we will all be aware of the stake we have in ' our community and work accordingly.
