The proposed 15 percent rate increase effective April 1 , 1 987 has been put on the back burner. According to General Manager Grant Earl the increase probably will not materialize. Moon Lake Board of Directors will have the final say about the budget, but Earl is Confident, so confident he told the Basin media Monday about the news, the board will not increase rates. The good news came after Deseret Generation and Transmission decided to rescind Moon Lake's two increases. One was effective last October, which Moon Lake absorbed so consumers would not be buckled under for the winter months, along with next April, which would have seen the 15 percent increase. Preposterous comments not responsible Dear Editor, I was disappointed by the lack of responsibility shown by the STANDARD in printing some of the preposterous comments made in the "You Said It" Section. Perhaps, a young man should not be held accountable for his "off the cuff remarks about "fighting Indians, but surely the ness should be considered obligated to deter racial prejudice and prevent adding fuel to the insecurity and of many Basin reparanoia sidents. I have attempted to follow the Jurisdiction Case for several years and realize that no one, including those of the state, county, dty or tribal governments, have concluded what the effect or result of the jud- gement will be. It is premature to react to uncertain conclusions. If changes come, let us handle them as they come, working together to answer the multitude of questions that have come with the case. Mark S. I would like to thank all of the residents of Roosevelt, who have helped to make this years Festival of Trees so successful We would like to thank all who have given cash donations to purchase tickets for the handicapped children and adults to be able to attend and receive a treat from Santa Claus. Many, many beautiful handmade gifts were donated, as were items for the Gift Shoppe, Sweet Shoppe, and Small Frye Sweet Shoppe. Thanks to each of you for your contribution in any of these ways. To those who decorated andor donated trees, we appreciate you so much. Thanks to the committee who served so well under the capable leadership of Sarah Snow. The 1986 Festival of Trees was a huge success because of the joint efforts of thousands from all over the state. Thank you everyone. It is nice to see a company stand by its consumers and fight for what they feel. Moon Lake directors could have easily given way to DG&T increases without thinking twice about increasing rates, but they held firm. It just goes to show that this coop is most definitely working. It was the first ' time he had heard all the details. The shepherds, the guiding star, the wisemen were all interesting parts of the story, but what intriged Jimmy the most was the part about the birth dace of Baby Jesus. He had been bom in a stable and his mother had laid him in a manger, because there was no mom for them in the inn. No room? Jimmy thought-No- . room for this very important season offers .. assurance of everlasting life of all humankind. May this Christmas season find love and a desire to help others abiding in the hearts and homes of people everywhere. And when the Christmas observance is over and we are filled with the spirit of Him whose birth we celebrate, let us retain always that spirit of peace and goodwill. President Ezra Taft Benson President Gordon B. Hinckley President Thomas S. Monson meanings of Christmas comes from the word itself. Mas comes from Latin word mass which means to celebrate. Therefore Christmas means to celebrate . Next we must remember that the word Christ is not a family or last name but rather it is a title. Christ is the Greek word which is translated into the English word savior. Therefore, Christmas means to celebrate the poming of our savior. The next question that enters our mind is: Who is this savior? When the angel tells Mary that she is going to have a child he also tells her that she shall name him Emmanuel which is the Hebrew for Jesus. The. word Emmanuel or Jesus' means God . " right at home. Suddenly, Jimmy heard himself saying, Yes, you can have my room! The prompters looked to the pastor for help. This wasn't the way it was suppose to go! The pastor stood then smiled and sat back down. No this 'wasnt the way the Christmas story had transpired. Rut this audience had experienced a story of Christmas that they would long remember. The door had been opened to Jimmy when he needed it, how could he close the door when . with us. Therefore, Christmas quite, literally means the celebration of tiie coming of our savior who is God himself. One of the dangers we have in celebrating Christmas is seeing Christ as only a helpless Babe in a manager. When the Christ is portrayed as a "Babe he makes few if any demands on our lives. It is only when we see Jesus the Christ in the total spectrum of Bab, Teacher, Crucified and Risen savior do we comprehend the love of God fig us. David Schorr St.' Helen's Catholic Church For many this Christmas will be a time of frantic running around and searching for just the right gift. For others, it will be a time of uncertainty, and despair ova the economic situation. For some it will be a time of lonliness, a time of doing without. Christmas is a ' time when depression and anxiety runs higher than at any other time of the year. It shouldn't be that way. Recause of God it is the time of year we celebrate His greatest gift to man, the gift of love, the gift of His only begotten Son, Jesus Christ. Then God intervened and an angel told Joseph "not to fear about taking Mary as his wife. I wonder what their parents were thinking when they broke the news about all of this to them. They most likely had the same feelings as many parents would about a teen pregnancy today.. Rut something was present in those people and what it was, was a gift of faith. Their child would be called. Emmanuel (a1 jewish word meaning God. is with us). The faith they had gave them a sense of trust that God knew what was best and all would work out if they could also trust We need that faith as much today as they did 1986 years ago. We need to know that God is with us. Each year at Christmas time we are reminded of that fact. If you are having hard times today because of financial, physical illness, home problems or spiritual emptiness, think of that young couple and their parents and know, "Emmanuel (God is Christmas means many things to different people. One of the to knock. Finally, the knock came, and Jimmy opened the door to the pleading Joseph and the freckled face girl playing Mary with a pillow stuffed under her robe. Please can you spare just one room? Jimmy hesitated. His prompters grew restless off stage. 'Jimmys mind went back to when he was without a home. He had never known his father, and when his mother left, he was taken to a foster home. We join with others in recalling the birth of Jesus of Nazareth, the Savior of all mankind. We reaffirm and bear witness that He is the only begotten son of the Father, bom of Mary on the memorable night long ago.' And we pray for the peace for which He was advocate. For nearly two thousand years Jesus Christ has been an inspiration to countless millions. The Christmas spirit is the spirit of Christ that makes bur hearts glow in brotherly love and worried and upset. Joseph was so upset that he was going to put an end to their relationship wondering whether Mary was ,really telling him the truth about her an opportunity . to renew our quest for the true Spirit of Christ and to focus our attention not only on His birth, but also the teachings of His mortal ministry, the incredible sacrifice made for us all through His suffering and death, and His glorious resurrection and the accompanying family. When the parts were given to the children for the Christmas play, Jimmy was given the part of the "Innkeeper." It had been hard for him, but at each practice, boldly, Jimmy spoke his ine, "Im sorry, but we have no room for you. The young boy playing Joseph would desperately ask, But my wife will soon have a baby, can you spare just one room? No, Jimmy would way, But you can stay in the stable," and he would point to the stage where a manger scene had been prepared. The night of the play, Jimmy could feel the weakness in his knees, and his sweaty palms. He repeated his line silently as he waited behind the door for Joseph felt friendship and prompts us to kind deeds of service.
