Anderson active in Powell to turn 85 The children of James Powell, longtime resident of the Basin, . re celebrating their father's 86th birthday with an Open House for family and friends. It will be held on Saturday, March 15, from 5' to 7 p.m. at the Roosevelt Senior Center. Powell is the father of Boyd, Gardell, Loene (Nelson), Sandra (Alridge), Lars, Janice (Bradshaw), Dahl and Ann (Nelson) Powell. He was married to .Iva Nelson in 1926. but she passed away in November of 1969. He later married Ester Allred in January 1961 and ahe died in September 1983. He moved to Roosevelt at the ripe old age of six years in 1907. The next year he moved to the Altonah area and lived there until 1937. While in Altonah he met and married Iva, began his family. In 1937 the Powells moved to the Cedarview area, where he still resides. The family and friends of Powells are invited to come to the IMAJO women from d' team, USA Dennis C. Manning of is once more on the four man North American Horseshoe Team. The team will represent the United States and Canada this summer in the International Team Farriery Competitions at the Royal Showground in' Stone-leig- Roo-Bevel- t, James Powell is turning 85 years old and is being honored by his children with an open house to celebrate the milestone. . He noted that in 1980 profits from drug sales were 80 billion dollars, 60 percent over drug sales since 1977. He said, Cocaine is the biggest drug traffic sales. It is expected that 90 metric tons will be sold by the end qf this year in the US. This is a 25.8 billion drain on our economy as much of the money goes to countries such as Boliva. In relation to Utah drug problem he, said ' 70,000 use drugs, 36 percent high school seniors has UBed marjuana in 1984; 16 percent from the age of 12 to 17; 24 percent 18 to 25. The largest cocaine bust in Utah was 100 lbs, which was broken down to 400,00 doses that would of been sold. Cocaine is a drug that knows no economic distinction, commented Attorney Ward. He went on to say, Our society looks upon the use of drug abuse as a victims crime. Linda Jensen and Margy Campbell financial planners and owners of BJC Associates spoke to the group on How to get control of your financial life. Jensen reported that 96 percent of the people retiring now are not prepared financially. Prices went up 103.6 percent in the 70s and has kept on going even higher, but wages did not. Members of the 1986 team were selected at the American Farriers held Association Convention February 25 thru March 1, in Jackson, Mississippi. The results of three days of horseshoeing and forging competitions at the convention determined team membership. Manning won the Hunter Shoe Forging and placed second in both the North American Challenge Cup horseshoeing and the Utah Proiect in this area. Dog Clinic setup for weekend James Parry and Zella Grant of Duchesne celebrated their sixtieth wedding anniversary last Monday. They were married on March 10, 1926 in the Salt Lake L.D.S. Temple.
