Show ( Basin Standlairdl IDihtiah WRESTLING DHS takes second in The Duchesne high school wrestling team took second place in the State Tournament as six of their team members placed in the top four positions. Duchesne had eight wrestlers qualify for the state tournament Of those eight three won the state championships, two took third place and one landed in fourth place when the competition was over. In his final match, Wiersma met a Wayne wrestler and defeated him, 6 to 4., At 126 pounds, Jeff Ercanbrack beat a Wayne high school wrestler, a region champ, to get to the final round. In the last match, Ercanbrack wHiwInutaH a Milford wrestler with a pin in the North Sevier took third place with 74 points and Beaver came in fourth with 64 points. , Moat said his team was in first place after the first round competition. He said that made Duchesne fori that they had a chance of placing. He said before that they didn't even know they would have a chance of taking one of the trophies home. ' By the end of the second round, all the Eagle wrestlers were in the finals but one. Moat said his kids really pulled together to get to the finals. Duchesne was leading North Sevier by five points and Wayne was ahead by ten. Wayne had seven or eight wrestlers in the finals and Duchesne had six. Moat said North Sevier was tough and in the competition for second place with than, Duchesne won 5 OUt of 6 metolw and North Sevier only won one second round. At 167 pounds, Mike Turley was victorious over a Beaver wrestler and advanced to the finals. In the finals, Turley met a Kanab high school competitor and won the match, 6 to 2. Taking third place and adding to the Eagles overall team seme were Mike Reinhardt and Travis Peatross. Reinhardt, 188 pounds, pinned a South Summit wrestler in the semi-final- s to take third Coach Dave place. Duchesne Moat said Reinhardt would have taken second place if he had been in the other bracket. He lost to the first place wrestler in his weight class by one print in the first round of the tournament. Peatross lost to the state 112 pound champ in the second round, by four points. This loss put him in the consolation bracket where he defeated a wrestler from North Sevier, 7 to 4, to take third place. Taking fourth place for the Eagles at 145 pounds was Roland Ivie. To reach the I vie defeated a Panguitch wrestler and a Gunnison wrestler. He to a Beaver lost in the wrestler and took fourth place. The STANDARD received a Polaroid of the winning Duchesne wrestlers, but, unfortunately, it was of pom quality and didnt reproduce well enough for the wrestlers to be recognized.
