Theatre 7:00 - - ,.:A Residents of Duchesne county of all ages will have a chance to express the benefits they gain from agriculture, and at the same time try for cash prizes. The them for this year's Utah Farm Bureau Intermountain Farmers Association essay contest is, "How Does Agriculture Serve You?" Entries will be accepted in four age categories: elementary school, junior high school, high school, and adult. Winning essays in the four groups on the county level will receive cash prizes of $10 for first place and $5 for second. First place winners will automatically be entered in the state contest. Winners at the state level, to be announced in December, will receive cash prizes in each category. The purpose of the contest is to nurture an awareness of the part the farmer plays in the country's economy, both as producer and as consumer. Essays should be 1,000 words or less. Deadline for entries is Oct. 30. Additional details and contest rules may be obtained from Mrs. Carolyn Winterton Posters describing the contest have been placed in the various county schools. Brown, full-tim- 'jy. i f: Steve Bailey, Roosevelt recreation director since April 1976, has accepted a position in American Fork as their new recreation director. Bailey was hired to handle the summer softball program in 1976 and was rehired the next summer. In July e 1977 he was given status to run the program year-rounlie initiated several programs for the area youngsters. The little league basketball program, in which over 90 youngsters participated should be even bigger this year. The recently-complete- d soccer program was also a success, with almost 70 boys and girls, most of whom had never played soccer before, participating. Also for the youngsters, classes in tennis, golf and gymnastics were offered. For the men, basketball and flag football were new programs. The flag football program is completing its second season. The basketball program, in cooperation with the Ute Tribe, fielded 20 teams. The men's and women's softball program showed considerable growth over the last three summers. The league has increased by six teams and the quality of the teams and competition has improved.
