However, it may not meet the needs of today's yount; hunters, according to A. Lee Robertson, who directs the DWR's program. Says Mr. Robertson, "We're not behind the times. In fact, we have one of the more Innovative programs in the United States. But what we offer is still inadequate." Mr. Robertson says that 20 years ago the Utah training program offered eight hours of firearm safety with a smattering of conservation and survival skills. Since then, Utah's program, as well as others around the country, his seen a need for additional emphasis on hunter ethics, game identification, conservation and on some of the problems which wildlife face today. With this in mind, Mr. Robertson has proposed a dual hunter education program. In it young hunters would receive training at about age 12, followed by additional training four years later. "With this program," says Mr. Robertson, "we'll get the kids back four years later and will be able to evaluate their progress. Well also be able to give them additional instruction with the rifles they'll be using for big game." Although the program is still in the planning stages, s pilot course was offered this fall in Randolph. Because the number of hunter accidents is very low now, Robertson feels the new dual program may not have a significant impact in this respect. But he points out that a league are proving to be the top players in the first year the r sport has been offered in a community proGames are played Saturday mornings. gram. world-popula- B'dw.947 :1 Fl LIVESTOCK SALE Friday, Sept. 22, 1978 m OTHER SIZES 4" TO 24" CONCRETE PIK.
