Show Sim Advocate IB Tuesday December 3, 2002 Preseason begins with back-to - back games for the Lady Dinos By KAREN BASSO Sports writer Even before the Lady Dinos stepped out on to the court this , year, the team was ranked as the top dog in the Class 3A standi- ngs. With most of last years team returning, the Dinos are favored to dominate the 3A rankings this season. With talent and determination on their side, the Dino team could easily go all the way. But being the number is a tough position to be in. Even before we played a game this year, we were predicted . to be the team to that win against the best team in the division," explained Carbon coach Bruce Bean. Although it is an honor to be ranked the bat, the Dinos refuse to let this go to their heads. Carbon hosted Wasatch Tbesday evening and Ogden Wednesday night pre-seas- on back-to-ba- ck The first game the Dinos played proved to be a successful one for the talented team. Carbon played strong against the defending state champions, the Wasatch Whsps. In fact, the Dinos dominated the court as they racked up their first win of the preseason, The game allowed the Dinos to sharpen their skills and prepare for the regular season as they led the Wasps throughout theballgame. By the second half, coach Bean was able to rotate players in and out of the game..He was pleased that the game allowed most of the players to gain valuable playing time. The Wbrburton sisters played well for the Dinos as Chelsey and Morgan combined for 19 points. Although the Dinos lost to the Tigers by only one point, 44-4- 3, the Dinos learned some valuable lessons. We gave up 25 turnovers against Ogden. This is something that we have to make sure we dont do again. We need to step up on defense. Ogden just out hustled us Wednesday. Golden Eagles drop first game of preseason Carbon boys fall to Uintah in preseason opener The Carbon High boys basketball team kicked off the preseason against Uintah last Wednesday night. : The Eagles shot only 60 percent in their final game of the weekend while their opponents shot 80 percent. These totals could have easily been the deciding factor in the outcome of the pre-seaso- n. In fact, foe Eagles record currently stands at 8-After an eight game winning streak, foe Eagles fell to the Utah 1. Showcase team by only six points. Despite losing, the competition was intense and the Eagles look toward next weeks game against Snow College. He was followed by GJ Macon who finished the game with 19 points. CEU point guard, P.J. Stinnett also played well as he completed the game with 17 points and five rebounds. ' The Eagles look to bounce back from the loss this Friday as they travel to Ephraim to take on Snow College. This game will be a preview of the regular season since both teams compete in the strong and talented SWAC conference. Vfclley. Although the Chuckers had a disappointing season last year, the team is rebuilding and has several talented players. The Eagles did not let this fact bother them however, as they stepped out and played tough, eventually chalking up the 1 ft O 96-8- victory. First year Eagle, Derrick Timer also had a strong game as he posted 23 points and seven rebounds. Tuner also blocked four shots for the Eagles. Following in scoring was Anthony Grant with 13 points and Devm Wood with 12 points. The Eagles shot well from foe line with a 75 percent average while shooting 51 percent foam the field.
