Steve James (a musician and song writer), and McGruff were part of the assembly. The gym was decorated with 35 flags, 50 helium balloons, and patriotic visuals. Welcome posters and 50 flags lined the bus entrance. To top it off, Darlene Harvel, dressed as the Statue of Liberty, stood with all the Kindergarten students (who were wearing hats and waving patriotic pinwheels) outside the school to welcome special guests. As people entered the gym, they were greeted with an entire student body dressed in red, white and blue, each child waving a flag. State PTA officers were in attendance as well as the Mayor, Representative Brad King, Dr. Armstrong, and members of the School Board. thanks goes to Smiths, Albertsons, Walton Books, and Maries for donations and support for Back to School Night.
