The United States government requires companies to pay mineral lease taxes on coal orgas extracted from federal lands. Tne county receives 20 percent of this revenue source, the state receives 30 percent and the federal government receives 50 percent The program amounts to $4 million in mineral lease tax sharing for Carbon County this year. - Last year, Carbon County mines and wells produced more than 6 million tons ofcoal and 73 billion cubic feet of natural gas. Prior to my first election, we received no direct mineral lease taxes even though we are the most energy-impactcounty in the state. I wifi continue to actively lobby for a fair share of mineral lease taxes to energy-impactcounties.
