However, the excitement lor the actual reading began to build from the very first reading. Thestudents couldnt wait to put bn their props, and attack the task. The audience had very little trouble with comprehension as the students made the characters come to life. After the Readers Theater presentations, the parents, grandparents and children were encouraged to check out books and take them home to share as a family This is a new policy at Sally Mauro Elementary (SME). Parents are being encouraged to check out hooks to read With children at home: This is all part of the literacy awareness effort that is part of SME. Research shows that preschool children's experience with language and literacy begins to form the basis for later .reading success.. V,,;-W. The library at SME will be open for parents to check put books In the afternoons.
