The mental health center's service objectives include a reasonable emergency response time of 10 to 15 minutes. In the spirit of cooperation, Grecnburg arranged an Interview with the man most involved with the Four Corner's on call program, Jay Jcppson, to discuss the on call service currently available to area residents. Jcppson is a clinical therapist who received his bachelors and doctorate degrees from Brigham Young University and his masters degree from Boston College, specializing in eating disorders. He has handled a large percent of the on call shifts in his six year tenure at Fbur Corners. Jcppson explained that on call shifts begin at 5 p.m. and end at 8 a.m. and Include weekends and holidays. "It Is a general misperception that these people are dangerous, commented Jeppson. But he related that he could not remember a single Incident when anyone was harmed by one of these individuals during his time at Fbur Corners. "Emotional crisis Is the great equalizer, continued Jeppson. It crosses socioeconomic, ethnic and generational boundaries. After two years of military training In Virginia, Jeppson revealed that a young man was visiting his home In the northwest area of the United States for the first time. After a long day of anticipation and a sleepless night, the young man set out on the cross ' country drive. He drove for two days without getting any sleep when he decided to get a motel room for the night in Helper. In his room, the young soldier thought he heard and saw men who meant to do him harm. He fled the motel in a panic, only to see the men again in his car, which he abandoned along the highway flagging a ride with a trucker. But the young man could not flee the vision and, glancing out his window, . he saw the men clinging to the side of the truck. The soldier opened the door and jumped. He was an Individual with no prior history of mental illness, pointed out Jeppson. plus with every . $10.00 worth of groceries you can buy It was the young man's state and sleep deprive excitement of tlon that brought on the psychotic episode, Treatment restored the soldier to mental and physical health. As a second example, Jeppson revealed that young father from the Midwest with a bipolar manic depressive disorder had stopped taking his medication for some time when he woke his wife in the middle of the night. The man told his wife that he had received a revelation from God that he was to go to California to preach to the people there, explained Jeppson. The man and his wife packed the car with their belongings along with the couple's baby and began the drive to California at 1a.m. After driving for two days without sleep, the man became convinced that his wife was possessed of the devil. He pulled off the side of the road,' kicked his wife and baby out of the car and continued . todrive. Not far from Green River, the man's lack of sleep caught up with him and he wrecked Ms vehicle, bringing him Into contact with the police. Law enforcement authorities referred the subject to Fbur Corners. . The man was subsequently transported to Utah Vblley hospi- tal for treatmenL The husband and father was eventually reunited , with his family "It is seeing Individuals and families get their lives back that makes what we do so rewarding; pointed out Jeppson. , i ; ; Price council addresses: ' (Continued from page 1A) deeded a pared of property owned by Isabelle Oliveto for 30 cans of Coca-Co- la .pmdycfe for $5.00 A. services: on-ca- ll the purpose of allowing a public street to be constructed.'
