After Id been dumped on" and chose not to fight back, a friend told me that many of us spend our entire lives trying not to oiTend those people who continually offend us the most". Quite frankly, I no longer care if I offend the City Manager and his puppets since they never have cared if they offended me. How many Blnnding residents read The City Shareholder that comes with their electric bill? Probably not many; therefore, you may not have noticed that it reads, We continue to encourage all water users to conserve as much ns possible... Rumor continues around town that the dirtier your car is, and the drier your lawn, the better citizen you are. Of all the arrogant statements, this is a topper. It comes from those who rationalize the planting of grass on the four new ballfields by saying theyll lose the funding if they dont go through with it. So?! Obviously, the precious ballfields that have consumed our meager water supply in our desperate time of drought, day and night, wind and shine for weeks are more important than anything else. More important than all the citizens yards, lawns, trees, and shrubs that have been carefully nurtured for years and years with water that was paid for by them individually. Silly me, to think that my years of investment or our Citys crucial water supply are as important as those ballfields. Oh, and did you notice in that same letter the subtle mentioning of their bill cycle for water was no longer than normal? Many may not have realized that if you were close to the 50,000 gallons used last month and had more than a 35 day billing cycle you may be entitled to an adjustment. Mine alone was overcharged by $15! Blnnding to stop outside watering" and No outside watering in Blnnding after September 30" topped the headlines in both local papers. Im definitely fine with that. But... let me see one drop of water going on those four ballfields after September 30 and I just might see you, my offenders, in court - water restrictions carry a class C misdemeanor fine..." My opinions do not necessarily reflect those of my family or friends. The a member of the Utah Press Association and San Juan Record National Newspaper Association My position on private vs. government should be clear to all. Private is always a better option. What may surprise some of you is that I agree (somewhat) with Commissioner Lewis. Until a new hospital actually opens for business, we cannot simply write off the current facility in anticipation. However, there seems to be a need for responsibility and common sense. Also, prior to recent newspapers, I have had and often expressed the opinion that Mr. Hart has made tremendous progress with the Health District. My opinion has not yet changed, however I am beginning to wonder how much to believe. The picture presented seems to show considerable improvement, but the requests for more money have not diminished. Are we simply debt shifting from outside sources to the county? Here is where my view begins to diverge from that of Commissioner Lewis. Just because there are some things you can do, doesnt necessarily mean you should do them. Let me illustrate: You may be aware that recent changes by a large company effectively destroyed 90 percent of what had been my livelihood. Financially this leaves me in a situation similar to the SJC Hospital. More debt than income. What shall I do? I am still self employed. My first decision was to stay that way. This left me with two primary options. 1 - Maintain my current lifestyle at all costs! While I dont have a I tax do have unused credit! county subsidy, 2 - Restrict my personal lifestyle to just get by" status while reand business. rebuilding my structuring This to be accomplished by hard work, and many long hours. The result of option 1 would be inevitable bankruptcy. Just because I could feed my family with credit cards, doesnt mean I should. It would be fiscally irresponsible and ultimately a to them. I would lose everything for them right down to our home. The result of option 2 would be ultimately based on my hard work (please turn to page 7) dis-servi- ce GQMMlu CESS (SBMtilu eaue u SAN JUAN BUILDING SUPPLY 1050 S MAIN BLAND1NG 435 678 - 2000 |
