I would like to thunk some of the people who helped make it great through their efforts. First and foremost I would like to thank the members of the San Juan County Fair board. Each of these people are volunteers who are dedicated and committed to making the fair a success each year and none of it would be possible without them. I would like to offer a special thank you to Matt Keyes, Amanda Hillhouse, Julee Shumway and Rodney Vessey for making my vision of an old west city a reality. Your individual creative talents are priceless. Thank you also to Laura Butler and Chuck Humpreys for giving of your talents to make the little things great. I appreciate the time that Art Adair and the Seventh District Juvenile Restitution program put in at the fairgrounds working on beautification projects. From pulling weeds, to painting bleachers to pouring cement, their efforts helped immensely. Thank you to Tbm Adams and his crew for their work on landscaping the main entrance to the grounds and to Krista Keyes for being willing to donate time to run the sound system. Thank you to County Jail Staff and Inmates Rodney Vessey, and Keso Shumway for helping with the signage for the grounds. We appreciate the City of Blanding for their donation of lights and poles; Empire Electric, Steve Gritz and Scott Benson, for donation of time and equipment to set the poles; and Tommy Palmer for seeking donations in our behalf. I must take a moment to thank my best volunteer crew, my family, who is always willing to do the little jobs that no one else wants, and often go without notice or thanks. Thank you to the County Commissioners for their support; my at USU Extension, Jim, Heidi and for all they do; and the grounds crew. Matt, Marshall, Max and Cody for doing a little of everything and doing it so well. Finally, thanks to the residents of the county who support the fair by your attendance. There would be no reason for a fair without each of you. Thanks to everyone else who gave time, talents and money to make the fair great. Utah ers Toni-Ros- David Johnson Trenching Thanks for contributing to successful fair IL S S Serving San Juan County Since 1957 Licensed Electrical Contractor is the first anniversary of the planes crashing into the World Trade Center, the Pentagon, and the sacrifice of Todd Beamer with two words, LETS ROLL, as he and friends deliberately crashed Flight 93 to stop it from plowing into the Capitol or White House. Only recently, the rehabilitation of the WTC and Pentagon sites were completed with much discussion about what would replace the WTC, and a bruhaha concerning the Memorial with those white firefighters at its base, which of course is politically incorrect. Some 3,008 Americans were killed on September 11, 2001 with extensive collateral damage to the surrounding area. All of the graphic details of September 11 wore extensively covered by television with more to come. People younger than 60 might think that September 11 was the only disaster ever suffered by America. Try to imagine 67 years ago on 19 February when the men of three Marine Divisions attacked the Japanese island of Iwo Jima. From this came the most famous picture from WWII, Marines raising a U.S. Flag on top of Mount Suribochi. Although no sailor or soldier was present to establish political correctness, the picture symbolizes the best of a typical American effort. Iwo was costly, with 19,000 wounded and 7,000 killed, and considerable collateral damage, with 21,000 dead Japanese. Stars and Stripes atop Mount Suribochi represents collateral damage from Pearl Harbor in 1941, and a significant event in our defense of freedom. Dr. D.N.
