Show THE SAN JUAN RECORD Wednesday, August 21, 2002 - Page 17 - And the winners are results of the weekends County This was the last year for departing Senior T.C. Garcia, who walked away with the Junior Livestock scholarship. He follows a long line of worthy recipients and has added a great deal (along with his Fair and Junior Livestock Show: The re- - Northern first serve m the steer News class parents) to the local JL program over the past years, as well as being one of the finest local peer leaders weve seen. I cant think of anyone more (not sur-- p risingly) is Kashay Wareham! Kashays steer also won Rate of Gain. The Warehams always seem to have a winner. Congratulations as well to deserving of this scholarship. T.C.s scholarship comes at a good time. Immediately following the sale of his steer, T.C. and family loaded up his gear and headed north to Logan, where T.C. starts school in another week. Also a big winner at the fair was the Peoples Choice award at the (new to the fair "this year) Western Art Show. Shane Deeter of La Sal took home that honor with a spectacular pair of handmade boots. You had to see them to believe them! Unfortunately, they are not my size - or anywhere near my price range for Ricky Wilcox, who won showmanship in the Junior Division. Thank goodness the bear did not eat this steer like he did the Wilcoxs 4-- lambs! In the mini division, second reserve went to Austin Wilcox H Diane Redd is feeling better. She is paralyzed from the waist down, but can wiggle her toes, which is very encouraging. She will continue therapy at Utah Valley Rehab Center and will be an for three to five months. Her address will be: Diane Redd, co Marg Bowden, 103 Candlewood Place, Provo, UT 84604 Diane wishes to thank everyone for the cards, letters, phone calls, and visits. She is in good spirits and working hard at regaining her mobility. Daughter Jennifer is her faithful supporter. She was released from the hospital and hung around to be taught the physical therapy she will be doing the next few months. There is to be no weight put on that leg for three months. Why am I just finding out now?! La Sal kids have always had a strong leadership presence at MHS -lets hope it continues forever. This week, first volleyball game Thursday and first football game Friday night. That must mean that the youngsters headed back to school this week. Hear those mothers sighing in relief! Medically speaking, it has been a tough week in La Sal. Some folks are very private so I will not go into details. However, the La Sal grapevine is a lot faster way to get the news than waiting to read this column. If you need to know the latest, stop by the store or post office here in La Sal. Shane is now older and losing his memory (well, he does have a daughter who is a sophomore at MHS this he probably takes after his mother who is totally losing her mind!) but he recalls that he got them from his big sis - Rochelle (aka Shelly) she who captained four state championship cross country and track teams. He also has some ingenious methods planned for keeping her down. Ask him, hell tell you what they are. Sympathy cards can be sent to John at La Sal, 84530! Now, an update on the suspenders of leadership. There rvas a whole lot more to this story than I ever knew! Seems Cody Deeter did acquire the shop sears' mr.' the cobblers kids never had shoes? Let me tell you how the bootmakers ma has no handmade boots! It is that time of year when we bid goodbye to those heading to the halls of higher learning.
