Show Public hearing on U, ,S. 191 widening The Utah Department of The environmental document Transportation is seeking a fi- evaluates impacts of the pronal public review of environmental documents that examine the widening of Highway 191 through Moab Canyon. The proposed new roadway divided design is a four-lan- e highway with the existing roadway to be used for southe bound traffic and a new roadway to carry northbound traffic. The divided highway will transition to an undivided highway through a narrow S curve in the canyon and at the north end of the project limits to minimize environmental and aesthetic impacts. The public hearing will be held Thursday, August 8 from 3 to 5:30 p.m. at the Grand County Council Chambers, 125 East Center St., Moab. two-lan- -- posed roadway widening from State Route 279 to State Route 313. Public comments will be addressed in the final environmental document. In response to previous public comments, UDOT has modified plans to retain current posted speed limits, to include a separated recreation trail connecting to the Old County Highway, and to construct turn lanes at Gemini Bridges TVailhead. Written comments will be accepted at the hearing and by mail through August 21. Mark Maryboy, chairman of the Navjyo Utah Commission (NUC), states the Commission is very appreciative of the hard work invested by NUC staff and the Halchita Town Council in arranging the funding partnership and equally indebted to Navajo Housing Authoritys Construction Services Division for producing 20 homes to revitalize the neighborhood. Oscar Begay, president of the Halchita Town Council, adds this project was a local initiative that took time to evolve, construction cost appeared overwhelming at the beginning, but the strong partnership that made it happen was well worth it. The rebuilt 20 units represent the second phase of a three-phas- e project rehabilitating 66 units in the subdivid sion. has been issued for reconstruction of 22 units in the final phase with completion targeted for October of 2003.
