Show THE SAN JUAN RECORD Wednesday, August 22, 2001 - Page 2 San Juan Commission brief by Logan Dowell At the August 20 meeting of the San Juan County Commission, Commissioners: discussed Wednesday August 22 Blanding and Monticello City Council meetings held at respective City Offices, 7 pm. Monday August 27 San Juan County Commission meeting at County Courthouse, 9 am. Registration at elementary school in Monticello Monticello Elementary will conduct an official registration for all students. The purpose of this registration is to improve the communication process between school and parents. All information important to parents will be given out to parents. The schedule for this registration is alphabetized according to your last name as follows: possible solutions to recent flooding in BluiT caused by heavy rains. Commissioners pointed out that the' main cause of the flooding is the State Highway. It was built at a higher level than the general landscape of Bluff and stops the water flow. Commissioners suggested printing a notice to prospective land owners in Bluff warning that they are building in a flood plain. The Commission also agreed to talk with the Carolyn Smith as director of the Monticello Senior Center, heard a report that the City of Blanding received a $3.5 million grant from the Rural Development Admin- istration to enlarge the Blanding Fourth Reservoir, approved the purchase of three computer hard drive towers at $699 each. The towers will be used in the and Bluff, Blanding, Monticello Senior Centers; 1968; agreed to send a letter to Congressman Chris Cannon clarifying what land San Juan County is willing to allow to be used in a Canyonlands National Park expansion project. The county will also send a map showing the areas that they are willing to change, including lower Indian Creek, Butler Wash, Bowdie Canyon, and possibly Dark Canyon.
