Show San Juan County Commission brief by Logan Dowell At the May 21 meeting of . the San Juan County Commiaaion, Commiminnprir heard a complaint from Curtis Yanito about the Commissions decision to appoint a Navqjo Fair Board consisting of a representative from each of the seven Navqjo Chapters in Utah. Yanito was THE SAN JUAN RECORD Wednesday, Moy 23, 2001 - Page 3 Maryboy said that not all appointed Fair Chairman by last years fair the chapters were represented recently committee. He argued that the fair had been a success in the past and that the structure did not need to be changed. Commissioner Mark Mary-bo- y disagreed, stating that he had received complaints about the fair and added that the fair has become too territorial. in the past fairs, noting that at last years fair, the Grand Marshal from Oljato was chased off of the fair grounds. The Commission previously approved a reorganization of the board with three changes. Each chapter would appoint a representative to the fair board, who would then meet and vote on a chairman. The Utah Navajo Commission would receive and distribute the countys funds towards the fair. Yanito stated that the Utah Navajo Fair Board is an established organization and that the fair management should be a local issue instead of a government issue. To which the Commission pointed out that if the county provides funds for the fair, it should have a say in how the fair board is organized. Yanito then argued that there was a conflict of interest on the part of Commissioner Maryboy, claiming that Maryboy wanted to control all the funding and the fair. Maryboy serves as a commissioner on the Utah Navajo Commission, along with six other commissioners. Maryboy had also previously stopped about $20,000 of Navajo Tribal funding for the fair, stating that it was because of the personality" of the organization. Maryboy added that the funding would most likely be restored under the new board structure. Commissioners stated that they saw no conflict of interest because Maryboy is one of seven commissioners that would have to approve funding for the fair, so he Rebate OR- -- 0.0IB 0.0iR HM 4.9n hi 2001 Chevy Cavalier Extrm 4.9 Kxtmtm $400 0.0 3.9 IM Ml Mi Ml 3.9111 3.9111 MB Extrm $ 400 INI Ml Ml Ml Ml Ml bMt 4.9n mb Extrm StOOO Kmtmtm 0.0in mih. 2.9in mih. 4.9ir miml 2001 Chevy Monte Carlo 2001 Chevy Impala 2001 Chevy Malibu 44RP 1000 $1000 Rebate Rebate 5.91H 6.9111 7.9 0.9 2.9 Ml Ml Mi Ml 3.9iia MIML a miml miml miml $i5oo Rebate .Rebate OR-- OR- 5.9111 6.9111 miml Ml Ml 4.9 2001 Chevy Tracker 0.9mb MIML MIML S-1- 0 Model AQ -- n Miaa 5.9mi 6.9 7.9 Miaa 5.9if MIML 5.9111 OR -- MIML 6.9jh JtiMHM 2001 Chevy Blazer 4 Door J3500 Rebate OR -- OR- ho '.9JfO Ha Ml 4.9m mih miaa 5.9n Miaa mb 2001 Pontiac Sunfire 2001 Oldsmobile Alero Miaa Miaa 5.9n Miaa O!2S00 bate 9 -- 0.9 2001 Chevy 12 1000 IS SJ1 2001 Chevy Silverado 2001 Chevy Silverado Torn Ext. The Commissioners also received a letter from the county insurance company, the Utah Association of Counties Mutual Insurance, stating that they will provide separate legal council for Commissioner Maryboy in various health district lawsuits. Maryboy disagrees with the Commissions point of view in the lawsuits. The contract between the county and the company gives the company the right to choose the attorney that will represent Maryboy. Maryboy claims that he wants his own choice of council and that the county should pay for it. The item was put on the June 4 agenda to continue discussion; received a decision record from the Bureau of Land Management and the Forest Service for a project in south of Cottonwood, The Blanding. project will include cleaning various mine shafts and tiie laying of 17 low water crossings.
