Governor Mike Leavitt recently announced Utah will build more electrical generating plants and upgrade the system. He said a third power plant would most likely be the Intermountain Power Project, about 12 miles north of Delta. Two units at IPP were built in the early 1980s and provide the county with its largest tax base. Last year, IPP paid $5.5 million in taxes to Millard County. In addition, IPP paid $213,000 to the fire district, $5.3 million to the school district and $2.9 million to the Millard County Chronicle basic school levy. Delta - Rolling Cortez area split over Iron Horse Rally Montezuma County residents appear to be evenly divided over whether the County Commissioners should rescind the liquor ban at the county fairgrounds in order to allow the Iron Horse motorcycle rally to locate there in 2002. A random telephone poll found 39 percent in favor and 37 percent opposed. Organizers of the raucous rally, which attracts some 30,000 motorcycle aficionados each Labor Day, have approached Montezuma County about relocating the rally to the fairgrounds.
