Preston Bunker, a senior at All-Stat- e Munticello High School, is one of six golfers named to the 2A Academic golf team. All-Sta- te and Eagles Altamont Longhorns, and a third place spot in the Region 13 standings. However, it all unraveled at the state tournament, where ju?t seven of the 14 varsity players attended the game. Buckaroo coach Matt Hall promoted two members of the Buckaroo Junior Varsity squad to their fir.--t experience in varsity action. It was necessary in order to field a team of nine players. Coach Hall states that the promoted JV players, Sylvetta Benally and Katie Torres, did an excellent job. Benally went e The Academic track teams include two athletes from San Juan High School; Kyle Laws on the 2A at the plat ar.d Torres had two clutch catches in the field to help the Buckarons. Hall stated that Kelly Bailey had her best game of the year in the final game. Bailey, the Buckaroo catcher, threw out three runners from behind the plate and got on base with every t. Hall said that despite the new lineup, the Buckaroos played a good game, they just suffered one bad inning. Juab 1-- 2 at-ba- scored nine of their eleven runs in the critical third inning. Earlier in the week, the Buckaroos dominated play with a double header victory over the Altamont Longhorns. In the first game, Monticello was led by the batting of Tiffany Arcaris and the tough pitching of Lisa Little and Crystal Helquist to earn a 22 to 0 victory over Altamont. In the second game of the double header, everyone had an opportunity to play. On April 10-12000 Janelle Denetsosie represented the state of Utah and the Ute Mountain Ute Tribe and Morris Boxing of White Mesa, Utah at the 2000 Everlast U.S. Women's National Championships, which were held in Midland, Texas. This was a dream come true for this young lady, after long hours of hard training which have now paid off. Janelle made it to the championship bouts on April 1 5 and won the National Title and the Gold Medal at the competition. Coach Thomas Morris and Morris Boxing Team members want to congratulate her for skills in Boxing and to participate at the level and becoming the National champion. Janelle is the daughter of Marrisa Lameman of White Mesa, Utah and is a freshman at San Juan High School.
