He w'as the second child and only son, with one older sister Rose and five younger sisters Camilla, Bar-- , bara, Ellise, Ida, and Myrna. Jack spent most of his child- hood out on the range with his dad, trying to be a cowboy, Over the years he talked about the many places he had been on a horse. He often said his cowboy career ended when he was 18. With the many things Jack did with his life, were some of the best years of his life. He often talked about sending money home to his family so his mother could save it for him. Jack expected there would be some money when he returned, but the family had needed it. After being released from the military, Jack moved to Salt Lake City to work in a bakery. He worked there for only a few months. Then his parents called and needed him home to help his dad run the farm on Dodge, For the next several years Jack helped his dad. They ran the ranch together.
