In the third period Thayn wasn't able to put enough points on the board to overcome the four point deficit and Fleming came out on top 10 Corners Classic WrestlingTour-namen- t, held January 14 and 15 in Blanding. Adam Lacy, of San Juan High School, dominated a tough 103-pou- to 7. nd weight classification to earn a championship medal. Lacy faced a tough wrestler from Kayenta in the final match for the second time this season. Earlier, Lacy was pinned, but he was not to be denied and earned a dominating 10-- 0 win. For his efforts, Lacy was named the Outstanding Wrestler of the lighter weight classifications. The other outstanding wrestler in the tour- Jeff Blankenagel and Mark Snyder, both sophomores at Monticello High School, took nament is Randy Morrill of Wayne, who won the 1 52 pound weight division. Monticellos Todd Thayn and San Juan Highs Josh Fleming met in the finals of the hewavyweight division, both coming out hard and aggressive. Thayn was down 2 at the end of one and both kept putting 5-- their place atop the podium and were crowned as champions of their weight classes. The Badgers easily outdistanced the five other schools with 249 points. San Juan High School was second with 1 60 points, and Monticello was third with 152. Both San Juan and Monticello schools were without a number of varsity wrestlers as both schools make final preparations for the regional tournament. The region tournament will be held in Blanding in three weeks. It was a good warm-u- p for the region tournament. Director Jim Lacy thanks everyone who helped out. Blankenagel came out strong from the deficit, put his opponent on his back and was looking for and aggressive in the finals against San Juan's Francis Lee. Down at the end of the first period, Blankenagel was fast off the w histle to open the second period going up pin when time ran out, leaving Garcia down 4 and giving him a second place finish. Levi Mallory came back off a tough first round loss to secure two impressive wins, pinning San Juans Jon Begay in the third period of a very physical match of the consolation finals to join Brad Rowley', who also came out strong in the consolation finals, both bringing home third place medals. Wrestling as an independent, Monticellos Luke Martinez had an exciting weekend winning two tough matches, including one over San Juans Daniel Perez in the consolation finals to give Martinez a third place finish in the tournament, and a chance to stand beside TC Garcia atop the podium in the 145 weight class. Curtis Burtcnshaw and Robert Butler both finished in fourth place, followed by Aldcn Jack in fifth. Every Monticello High wrestler who participated in the tournament was a medal winner by placing 5th or better. In a dual with Wayne High School prior to the start of the tournament, Mark Snyder, Kyle Curtis, Kevin Krist and Todd a brought the Monticello crowd to their feet with an exciting pin in the third period. Snyder was the first of six Buckaroos to wrestle in the finals. He faced Dallas Edwards of Wayne. In what started as a slow match, Snyder began to mount points against Edwards and was up 0 at the end of two periods. In the third, Snyder put his opponent on his back but time ran out with Snyder winning the match Kyle Curtis and Kevin Krist both met opponents from Wayne High School in the finals, but were unable to come out on top and fell by pins. In an exciting semifinal match between Krist and San Juan's Tye Shumway, physical was the name of the game. Points went back and forth with Krist falling behind for a moment. However, when the final buzzer rang, Krist 4-- 9-- 0. was up 10 to 7 to secure a spot in the finals and send Shumway to the consolation bracket. In his final appearance, TC Blaahciuufcl 5-- Plaita Hicl&oti ted tournament. For San Juan High School, Jermaine Tisi finished fourth at 125 pounds, Tyrel Cressler fin- ished fourth at 130 pounds, Wayne White of San Juan battled to the championship .natch and finished second at 135 pounds. Trent Bradford finished third at 140 pounds, Daniel Perez placed fourth at 145 pounds, and Tye Shumway finished third at 152 pounds. Nate Dandy finished fourth at 1 60 pounds, Trent Jones finished second at 171 pounds, Shawn Begay placed second at 189 pounds. Zak Shinkle was second at 215 pounds and Josh Fleming won the heavyweight division. For Whitehorse High School, Everett Thomas led the way with a two periods. Garcia fought back fourth place finish at 140 pounds, Lionel Clyde was fourth at 152 pounds. Marco Oldman was third at 171 pounds, Albert Pete was third at 2 5 pounds, and Neal Nakai was third at heavy1 weight. The Bucks travel to Moab on Wednesday for a dual and again on Saturday for the Grand County High tournament. Thayn all wrestled to wins.
