For it is the wisdom that should be of importance here, not the gender, personality or transitory expression of the muse. Eddina Moab, Utah B. In a town that seems to get lost in minutiae, focusing more on garbage and personality vendettas than the important issues, for once, let's hold onto the issue at hand, which is increased taxation (inflation) without adequate input of the citizens that it will affect In a democracy, the citizens should have the right to vote on any tax increases, be they local property taxes or on the State or Federal levels. These decisions should not be made arbitrarily by bureaucrats or agencies within the government. It is time for tax reform, before local. State and Federal agencies get totally out of hand. Bigger, more expensive government is rarely better government and is usually more inefficient. Nobody benefits from inflation, not even the bureaucrats themselves, who one day will find themselves "retired" and on fixed incomes. Everyone's cost of living keeps going up and up, and the pace of living gets faster and faster and more hectic, just to survive. Welcome to LA.! Is this the vision for the new Moab? Is this really progress? The people who really lose out are the working poor and our senior citizens trying to live on fixed incomes. Who knows? Perhaps in the future, the very bureaucrats who created these taxes (including user fees) won't be able to afford to use these clever little parks or even live here. The circle turns. Publisher Jim Stiles recounted changes and aberrations encountered during a recent tenth anniversary reunion with his life as a park ranger in Arches National Park. Noting references to vast increases in park visitors over the past decade, I took a mental detour and revised my plans to visit the park This August visit would mark the fourteen anniversary of my first and only previous visit to Arches in 1983. Revising my focus for the '97 tour (part of a family road trip through the southwest), I set out to find collectible artifacts left behind by visitors to the park. Acceptable evidence to "pack out" would be the FIRST sign of commercial human detritus encountered at each site visited in the park.
