Show 0 The Sampler, May 10, 1984 to Park Tennis team City, falls shows Dug way good outing in region meet places second in region Coach Parry was extreme i - ly proud of Dugways track team at the region track meet last weekend, and with good reason! The boys team came in third place out of eleven teams at the region 11 meet May 4. They were running neck and neck the whole way with North Summit and St. Josephs throughout the day. Parry commented, "I went in hoping we would get a fourth place or better and we did. The girls team also had good reason to be proud, after tak-- . ing fourth place in the region. Six boys and six girls qualified for the state meet. In order to qualify, the runner must come in the top four in individual events, or be on one of the top two relay teams. Dugway had two regional champs when the day was over. Kary Gardner was the winner in the discus competi- tion and Fiona McHardy won the one mile race. Gardner also had a second place in the shotput and McHardy placed second in the two mile. Robin Hunt qualified for the most events at state, placing in three events. She had fourth palces in the long jump and 400m dash, as well as running the third leg in the medley, relay team which came in second. The other members of the relay team are Mary Parks, Kim Marion and Megan McHardy. Each member of the team ran well, but Wendover had more strength at the end. Vicky Perkins completes the list of the girls competing in the state meet, she placed second in the javelin. The guys going to state each made it individually. Todd Christiansen took second in both the high jump and the 800m run. Maurice Cogdell showed his natural speed by taking a second in the 100m dash. Bob Jackson had the guts to come in second in a close race in the 400m dash. Dave Perkins used his brute strength to hurl the shot put far enough for a third place finish, while Troy Prather had the form and strength to throw the javelin into a second place' finish. Coach Parry was very pleased how the meet turned out. According to Parry, "We just didnt have enough bodies to keep up. North Summit had quite a few people so they had entries in .very event. Dugway couldnt field a 1600m relay team, so points were lost there, and those in the long distance events didnt place high enough to get the points needed to say up with North Coming into the region strong showing. The boys qualified six guys in eight events and the girls six for six events. The state meet will be held at Provo High School on May 12 starting at 9:00 a.m. Parry added, "I am really looking forward to it and I hope we can get some placers." ; v. BYU Invitational Competing against larger schools than Dugway is used to to, Kary Gardner rose-u- p the occasion May 5. Besides Gardner, no other member of die Dugway team was fortunate enough to have turned in a performance that ranked them in the top six in their respective events. But Gardner sure did and not just in one event. He placed in both the shotput (second) and discus pete must register, before May 21, at the HHC orderly room. Building 5314 or at the starting line. Track team performs well By Fiona McHardy Though the weather may be cold and windy, the track team didn't let that bother them as they participated in a four school meet in Morgan April 26. Competing with Dugway and Morgan were Park City and Lehi. It was a long ride up to Morgan and the team was met by a cold breeze as they stepped off the bus, but as the starting gun went off in each of the individual races, all other problems were forgotten as each person gave everything he had to cross the finish line in first place. Dugway did. finish the meet with a few first places. Todd Christiansen jumped highest in the high jump. Troy Prather won the javelin competition as well as taking third in the 200 m dash. Maurice Cogdell was right ahead of him, coming in second place in both the 200 second in the mile run. Ron Wilson also took a second place, but his was in the two mile.
