Also we have received some increased visitations from the prospective hunters who are checking out water conditions and refuge regulations. The one question we receive most often is, "Is goose hunting allowed at Fish Springs? The - 1( (?- l water-fow- answer is no. The duck population con- tinues to stay at around 25,000 birds. Most of these birds are pintails, greenwinged teal and American wigeon. We have just had a large influx of coots. Im surprised more hunters do hot take coots. Two weekends ago we maintained radio communications between the Weber marsh at this writing. Pind tails, teal, American wigeon and coots have shown up in large numbers. We have around 30,000 ducks and coots. Very large flocks of coots just suddenly flew in! Also, redheads and canvasbacks have been arriving in larger numbers. green-winge- nomic delight! With the welcome, cooler weather our water levels in the marsh units are beginning to increase. It is amazing how the cooler nights cut down on the evaporation. Laurie Good's mother, Mrs. Florence Kallemeyn from Prescott, Arizona has been here at the refuge visit- State R.O.T.C. training group who were practicing rock climbing and rapelling in the Deep Creek Mountains and Dugway. The communications were set up for safety purposes in case anyone was injured. Our job was to radio the Dugway medical group in case ambulance or medevac assistance was necessary. Luckily, we did not have to radio Dugway. Thats all from the outback for this week.
