Unfortunately, black plague is a common disease squirrels and other small rodents in the Western United States; an area that includes Utah. The disease is most frequently transmitted to humans through flea bites that become plague infected by feeding on in sick or dying animals. This plague is more common during the summer months, May through September, and occurs more frequently in children than adults. Plague symptoms in man include fever, headache and often swollen glands in the region of the flea bite. The disease responds well to antibiotics once it has been diagnosed. Camping tips to minimize gue infection: a. Wild of your choice, lunch, suntan pla- - animals that act friendly may be sick or dying from disease that humans may catch. harboring infective fleas. c. Use insect repellant. Take basic precautions against ticks as di- seases other than plague. d. Before setting up your camp site do a survey to insure there are no animal burrows in the immediate area which might harbor fleas. e. Troop 517 summer schedule ' by SSG Phil Hale I had the pleasure of attending a court of honor for Boy Scout Troop 517 on Tuesday, and found a flurry of activities had been either completed or were in the final stages of pre-- . paration. Main business at the meeting involved awards to many of the members, and recommendations and explanations for the members of the Webelo's den who were invited. Scoutmaster Tom Eckert outlined some of the objectives of the troop which now boasts 13 members and they hope to have twenty soon to fill out the two patrols. cans beginning about 6 p.m. Hie troop will be in charge of. cleaning up the areas used during the main Dugway Days events on June 3. Beginning June 4 until the jobs complete, Jim Deal and Tom Eckert II will be painting the playground equipment at Dugway Elementary as their required Community Service Project on the path to Eagle Scout. Duey Szabo was presented one of the new scout mothers pin sashes by her son Pete. The red, white, and blue ribbons signify the ranks the mpms have helped their sons achieve in Refreshments were the order of the evening as the meeting drew to a close, and what better refreshment for the Bov Scouts than punch and Girl Scout Cookies. Troy 517.is not the only scouting organization here at DPG and the other Girl Scout, Brownie, Cub Scout, Webelos and Boy Scout Troops, Dens and Packs have all been busy as well. Next issue (June 11) well report on some of those, happenings and give you a report on this years successful Girl Scout Cookie Drive as well. Twelve of the boys to attend from July boys are ready and eager to attend. On June 1, the scouts will be participating in a "Clean the Sand Can project project in Johnsons Pass to be followed by a weinie roast at Clover Creek. Keep an eye out for the boys who expect to start the task of clearing the litter from-thTroops emergency sand 19-2- 4. . . scouting. Those who have achieved Tenderfoot scout by the time Camp starts will be going to Camp Evergreen near Bear River, Utah. The the $51 fee for the troop is paying one-ha- lf through Dinosaur National Monument in Vernal. The first is scheduled for Saturday, June 12. We will depart Dugway Friday, June 11 and drive to Split Mountain Campground in the National Monument. The raft will bring us back to the Campground, and the vans will take those who desire back to their motels. If you want to go you MUST bring a $5.00 check or money order deposit to the meeting at the Community Club at 7:30 Monday, May 24th. are NOT Deposits refundable. Total cost for the raft trip will be children age $23.00 and adults $35.00 each.
