Does it imply machines, whose only PurP!e ta life' b to maim, kill and destroy? What about the person behind the uniform? What do the words duty and loyalty mean to the person? To some soldiers, there is no other world than the Army. It is their mother, father, brothers, sister, wife, mistress and master. Even when they take their uniforms off, they still wear their rank as if it were an invisible shield upon them. If you take away this shield, remove their rank from them, put them out in the civilian world, they wither away and die, as if they were a flower parted from the parent vine. For others, the parent vine is a creeping, stranding growth, knowing nothing, caring nothing. irresistibly bending its will, or crushing them merci- lessly in its grip.
