Show THE ZEPH YR/JUNE-JUL During the Great Depression of the 1930s, with more than a quarter of the nations’s citizens unemployed, the Roosevelt Administration took unprecedented steps to put the country back to work again. And it realized that artists and writers were as desperate for a paycheck as any other segment of society. Subsequently, FDR hired thousands of artists and writers and sculptors. Their works can be seen in post offices and government buildings around the country. The Administrattion also approved a series of tour guides for each state. Ths map is from the Arizona edition, “compiled by workers of the Writers’ Program of the Works Progress Administration in the State of Arizona.” As far as I can determine, the artist who created this brilliant map is unknown.
