Show THE ZEPHYR/OCTOBER-NOVEMBER 2006 In 1965, southeast Utah was still one of the most remote and unpopulated sections of the United States. The 1960 census showed a Ut population of 890,627, a third of what it is today. Paved roads in the heart of the canyon country simply did not exist. Look at the map---US 160 & SR 47 (now US 191 & 163) represented the eastern edge of “civilization.” SR95 from Blanding to sville was a dirt road. So were all roads into the newly created Canyonlands National Park. SR 128 from Moab to Cisco was gravel. . Southeast Utah Quadrant |
