Show THE ZEPHYR/FEBRUARY-MARCH THREE MOAB 2006 LANDMARKS But who remembers? THE THE BROILER . BIG TREE 100 South & 300 East Main Street & Kane Creek Blvd THE DINER at the corner of Main St and Kane Creek Blvd began as a TASTEE FREEZE in the mid-50s. Longtime Moabite KEN ERBES brought the pre-fab structure to Moab and it was assembled on this site. Later it became a chicken-take out store and in the late 80s, gained prominence as THE MAIN STREET BROILER. It was sold in the mid-90s, reincarnated briefly as RUMORS, then as the STAR DINER. Finally, the property was sold to BURGER KING and the old structure was demolished. THE BIG TREE was probably planted in the mid-1880s and was a prominent Moab landmark for over a century. The top-heavy cottonwood began to uproot itself and tilt in late autumn 1999; the city had no choice but to bring it down. |
