Show THE ZEPHYR/JUNE-JULY From my viewpoint, I was told by the coach of Moab's biggest team, that the destruction of personal property should be an expected part of the week’s games. It happened to 2005 . isco Axess members of his team on their playing field, so I should expect the same thing on mine. Only problem is, my field was an official BLM campground designated as a safe retreat from such activities. That Mr. Adams wouid then say "Well then, we'd rather not have you here" also sends the message that his team and their fans own Moab for that week, and that anyone who comes within the vicinity should expect damage to property (kind of like expecting a fight at a high school sporting event). People often emulate the attitude that they feel in a certain area at that time. Clearly, whoever bulldozed our camp site was energized by something. There is clearly an anything goes attitude that is manifestly growing in the Moab area during Jeep Week. Mr. Adams’ comments to me about our incident do not go against this notion, they re-enforce it. "The Realtor who knows what's REALLY going on in Moab!" NOT ONLY is JUDY a GREAT REALTOR | SHE LOVES ANIMALS TOO... Mr. Fordham is absolutely right about the need to start finding solutions for Moab’s safety. There is so much activity during Jeep Week, so much, that the Sheriff and the BLM pa MN Rangers couldn't possibly patrol it all nor supply all of the funding and materials necessary for placing barriers in harm's way. It will require a concerted effort by all the folks in Moab who benefit from this one week. The hotel, restaurant, adventure shops, etc, need to pool their resources with law enforcement to create a vision for the re-enforcement and delivery of proper etiquette and safety. Some will have to come in the form of re-enforced words and attitude. Some probably needs to come in the form of physical patrols and the erection of (hopefully temporary) physical impediments to disaster in designated safe areas. When I mentioned in my first letter, that orange barrels might be a good idea, it wasn’t entirely a joke. As a teacher in inner-city Chicago, I deal with large crowds every day. My school has 1,800 kids, mostly low-income, speaking 50 languages, in a very large and understaffed building. The few security officers we have couldn't possibly handle one hundredth of the risky situations that bubble to the surface daily. The reason our school can work is because teachers, administrators, lunch ladies, etc. all actively play the role of preventative patrol officers. Our use of language, demeanor, examples, and actions usually preventa really bad ~ | LOVE YOU / (80 MUCH | COULD ‘4, DROOL ALL \ /) , OVER YOU. Were all committed to this, of course, because we each share an investment in our work place. Perhaps my analogy might be useful for all who reap the benefits from a large and rowdy crowd in Moab. Gale campaign from which they can never waiver in words or deeds. In my case, with their words, they waivered. They, law-enforcement, and all businesses that benefit from Jeep (each office is independently owned and operated) Week, need to organize and enforce a plan that will ensure the safety of all who revel in Moab”’s many wonders.
